10mm?
Oh, yes.

But I suspect you mean .1mm
Correct clearances (when cold) are .28-.34mm, so aim at the mid-point.

As the engine gets hot, the clearances will tighten.
If the clearances reach zero, the valves can't fully close, and hot exhaust gases will start to burn the seat away.
The engine then gets hotter.
That'll accelerate the burning process, leading to pocketed valves.

Also the buckets will run constantly against the cam surfaces; normally there is no contact during the base circle phase of the cam.
More wear, I'm afraid.

All of that, most certainly, will affect power outputs.

Lastly the hot burning gasses will continue to burn in the exhaust pipe, leading to blueing of the downpipes, and possible silencer damage.
Cosmetic, but not recommended, really.

While you were in there measuring, why not just re-shim?
Only another 10 minutes work.

Or are you just looking at the rear (easy to get at) cylinder?

I am re-shimming but i dont have my verniers here (at work dumbarse me forget to bag them) so will have to wait.
The cams look good, mirror finnish no grooves etc.
I took the front out ready but i'm worried i might take the cam chain off the sprocket at the bottom of the engine (crank) is this possible?

No worries, it just slots back on, can't miss the bottom sprocket.
Just make sure you tension it by hand if you need to rotate the engine to the next tdc as it can jam round the bottom sprocket if left loose, without both cam sprockets in place.
