Snapped chain damage

Post by Razor »

Chain snapped on my SP1 yesterday and it don't look too good :(
3 out of the 4 bolt holes on the engine casing that hold the sprocket cover and clutch slave cylinder on have been smashed off.
I doubt it can be repaired but if anyone has any ideas i'd appreciate it.
At least I didn't get thrown off the bike and the chain didn't hit my m8 who was just behind me.

Sorry to hear that :sad2

Try and find a skilled aluminium welder to see if he/she could build it up to accept new holes for the bolts.

Bloody hell 8O Glad you are ok. How old was the chain? Do you think it was failure due to wear or manufacture?

Convert it to a cable clutch? I know that Durbhan did a kit for these a while ago. I'll see what I can dig up on it.

failing that, you might be looking at a new case 8O

Do SP1's still suffer from the CCT failure problem?

If so, you could almost certainly find an engine with top end damage to make up a good one.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Crickey matey!

Roger Ditchfield knows a very good welder, I was after him for a Ti exhaust repair. Give Roger an email, show him this picture and see what he says. Everything is repariable, so don't worry.

OK, this guy is in Texas, but it shows there are people that can do it:

A further search shows:

and a post on here might help:

Good luck!
