Good point. But I tend to think that my problem was half the reason why he was trying to sell it!

I assumed (which makes an ASS of U and ME) that the locks would match.

Oh well. You live, you learn.
Another it's a bit late post...but I would have wanted to look in the tank before buying to check for rust & how much fule was in it if I was riding it home...

Still you live & learn...You'll never do that again...I hope... 8O
All good. The bike was towed home as no registration. Bit of impulse buy I'll admit.

I paid AUD$1700 for it (around 900 pounds) so it's nothing spectacular.
Ah that makes sense,

Chris.

Well, I managed to get the old fuel tank lid lock out.

I drilled a pilot hole all the way through - about 7-8mm diameter.

Then I tried a 14mm bit from a drill set that I bought of ebay. It drilled a bit, but the tip didn't last. You get what you pay for!

So yesterday I bought a 15mm bit (from a trades store) and used an electric drill to drill into the lock. The lock popped up before the bit broke through the bottom.

Now I have a new lock to fit, plus a new ignition switch/barrel to match the fuel lock. The original Honda switch on my bike works for now.

I guess if I replace both fuel tank lock and the ignition switch I'd have one key for both. I'll see how I go.

Someone put it together, so I should be able to pull it apart.

Well done...

Your next task is to get the ignition switch off...

UK bikes have secutity bolts fitted, when fitted @ torque setting the heads snap off...

So get that drill back out...

If your lucky they will be normal bolts... If not take the yoke off for better access...
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...
