VTR Electricial issues

So, a friend had this bike in storage for some years for the owner who is not in this country and who now wants it sold

It's (I think) a 1999, plastics are rattlecanned black poorly, there was no coolant in it, a leaky battery and a tank full of varnish, rust and water and the carbs too.

More importantly some rodents have chewed wiring from front to back

I got the tank and carbs crudely cleaned, and fitted a new battery - dead

Pulled off the tail plastics and the rats has eaten three of the small wires to the starter solenoid/main fuse cap and a bunch of the insulation from the positive and negative battery cables/leads

I spliced in some new wires and got ignition and a start and drove her to mine for deep cleaning over a few days. I also re-wrapped all the damaged and repaired wiring and then replaced plastics and turned ignition: dead, nothing at all, no electric power

I remembered dropping a screwdriver and getting a spark from the frame and main battery terminal, so I checked main fuse; blown

Changed fuse: still dead, then after a brief delay power came to ignition for 5 seconds and dead again

I wiggled loom around solenoid and relay and rectifier and tried again and again 5 seconds of power and dead

Rechecked my previously mentioned wiring repair - dead

Charged/tested battery to be sure it was fine and still no power, so I bridged between solenoid poles with my pliers and the engine turned over strongly

Solenoid?

Get a replacement loom & change the whole thing...

I'm getting it to a reasonable running condition and flipping it, so the new owner can have that job, not spending any money on this one

It WAS the solenoid, as it turned out so i took one off my 1200 and she's good, looks like when I blew the main fuse I also cooked the solenoid at the same time by melting the connector for main fise

tomorrow I need to figure why it drops a bank of cylinders randomly. Seems fuel tank vent related

You're right re the track bike, I'd hope that anyone buying for track use will want to get it into good shape themselves.
Have you thought of breaking it for spares instead? You'll make more money doing that, I would have thought.

It would in UK or Ireland, I'm in S.E.A, and I haven't seen another one in this country

Tank and carb varnish rust water combo is the worst issue aside from repaired loom.

I also obv did brake fluid and clutch, plus slave cylinder seals and oil and filter and have tested cooling system, it's okay, no leaks.

Also deleted carb cooling hoses, average temp here is around 30c

Back into the carbs tomorrow, hopefully for the last time this time!

Any reccomended in line fuel filter numbers for these?
