the chemical solvent used is the same as the ones beauticians use for fake nails.

cold plastic welding can also be done using a chopped up zip tie and dichloromethane aka decent paint stripper. ive had good results doing it that way and the soldering iron way. the only thing with the soldering iron method is that, like metal welding, if the part to be welded isnt hot enough the plastic just fills the gap and doesnt take to the parts and cracks easy.
Do you know what the filler powder is? That would be handy! :D
Baking powder and superglue does the same job.
Acetone and chopped abs welding rod also can be used for cold welding.

So it's just me that uses the old coat hanger and soldering iron trick then haha

This is a great job dude, and brilliant to see all the pics through the process. You going to take pics of the spraying too? Am doing the same myself shortly :)

I was looking to top up my plastex powder and liquid for fairing repairs as I was running low - The standard plastex kits sell at £24 and contain 30g of powder and 50ml of liquid.

However after a bit of research it turns out the exact same stuff is used for denture repair!

And 225g of powder and 150ml fluid from a dental supplier wholesaler is £34.13 inc. VAT & postage!! :D

Next I'll be repairing choppers.... :biggrin

Cheers for that. Repairing fairings at the moment and will run out of both before I'm done.

Possible thread hijack - Anyone used the moulding bar in the Plastex kit and willing to create a mould for me? I need to fill a hole in the right fairing panel where the indicator slots though. Looks like a couple of cracks have joined up and a piece has come out and I don't have anything to take a mould from.
