Re: Bigger Bore Etc

RE: Carb Settings: I'm sure the different trumpets are due to the air flow for the front cylinder being different from the rear. Essentially the air for the front cylinder needs to make a sharp bend and almost reverse direction to enter the throat of the front carb. For the rear it continues on mer...

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation

...I spoke too soon...issue is still there, but just sometimes. I can't quite work out exactly what triggers it but I think it's when I give the bike a large and relatively prolonged handful of throttle after coasting or cruising for a bit. It just briefly hesitates and then continues accelerating n...

Re: Bigger Bore Etc

Very impressed with your dedication and hard work! I'll not have time for stuff like this in the next probably twenty years as we're having our first baby in a few weeks' time, so I read most of your post with impressed interest rather than thinking 'and now I want to do the same' hahaha. One thing ...

Bloody nice looking bike there! Can understand why you're trying to track it down.

Re: Occasional full-throttle hesitation

Thank you very much both of you for your replies. The issue has been solved by richening the pilot mixture by half a turn, which I'm quite surprised by considering this was happening most often in the upper midrange (but when transitioning from closed to large throttle).

Re: Help with idle problem!

What he said, and also check the throttle linkage as I had this issue before and it turned out to be caused by slop/play in one of the throttle linkage pivot points that had a stripped nut on that wouldn't do up properly.

Re: Caliper and mounting bolts

I may be wrong, but I thought the OEM bolts come with locking compound already on them, which is why Honda say to replace them each time you remove them. Instead of replacing them, a clean and re-application of a dab of Loctite and you're good. I've never used (and never needed) copper grease on the...

Occasional full-throttle hesitation

I'm getting a momentary hesitation as the revs pass through roughly 7k which has started happening recently. It's only on full or nearly full throttle hard acceleration. It doesn't happen every time but it's often enough to be noticeable and annoying! My carbs and air filter are all stock (except fo...

Re: What bore is the carbs on a VTR 1000?

Hi guys, thanks for the wiring diagram... I can see there are three wires to it, but I am struggling to work out the position of each wire on the sensor. :confused from the diagram I assume red - variable resistance signal yellow / black - 5v supply from the ignition unit green - earth can on of yo...

Re: Headlight improvements

Some further thoughts on this: I have installed a 100/55W bulb which, together with having relays already installed, is a very nice improvement. More importantly (at least this has made the biggest difference), I found I had my headlight beam too low. I'd adjusted it based on the level of the dipped...

Re: Workshop hourly labour rates

Oh good well I'm glad it at least seems in the right ball park! Thanks. I just wanted to get it done and I fully trust the guy mechanically, but just haven't a clue about prices. I also never know if you're meant to haggle in these situations... I did also end up asking him to fit a rear tyre which ...

Workshop hourly labour rates

I never usually get anything other than tyres done by a garage, so I'm completely out of touch with what's a reasonable rate for the labour. However, my steering head bearings and front forks really needed doing and I just don't have the time at the mo to do them myself, so I got my local guy to do ...
