Nambusters - our tour of Northwest Vietnam - Picture heavy
Day 2 - Mai Chau to Bac Yen We had a pretty restless night in the stilt house. The house itself was great but it was in a little village out in the sticks, which means livestock. So under the house there was at least a couple of dogs that would bark and set off a chain reaction of other dogs barking...

Nambusters - our tour of Northwest Vietnam - Picture heavy
Hi everyone I thought I would post up some photos and a little trip report from our recent tour of north-west Vietnam. On this trip there were Del-boy (delmeekc), Phil TK and myself. Phil has been on most of the trips to Germany we've done over the last decade, but has long been wanting to do a tour...

Re: TOP YOKE
Call me paranoid but I don't like the idea of risers on drilled cast alloy that doesn't particularly have much depth to it. I'm sure it's fine as people have been running them like that for years, but for me it's either a pukka alloy yoke that's made specifically for flatbars, or stick with the clip...
Re: Top speed
Nudged an indicated 170 on dottinger hohe at nurburgring on my first storm, which had a 15t front, although I did then overshoot the pit entrance and cop a bollocking from the marshalls. This year in Germany me black storm was showing 150 with a top box and luggage, at which point the Tarmac changed...

Re: TOP YOKE
Renthals here too. Proper job with longer braided lines, and CNC top yoke. I much prefer them, no weight on your wrists & effortless steering.

Re: Kriega.
I'm looking at an R15 for a tour of North Vietnam next April. I like that you can fit a hydration/camelbak in it, it should be big enough for my needs and I can use it on the mountain bike in winter. I don't bother with rucksacks much since I got the givi topbox on the VTR, and have an Ortlieb dry b...

Re: B & Q Greeter
I had one of these 'greeters' recently ask me if I wanted decking. Luckily I got the first punch in and floored the b8stard.

Re: to baffle or not to baffle
Currently I've got dual exit blue flames, with all four baffles out. It's loud, but I like it that way. Always considerate when leaving the house early on (ready to go, low rpm until out of the estate etc) but to be honest it pales into silence when compared to me old Buell. My wife could hear me co...

Might have been me, mine's easy to spot though - flat bars, carbon dual-exit pipes and a givi rack.

Re: "holiday" riders
Fair point, however George Michael managed to tumble along the M1 at 70mph without any protective gear whatsoever and he only picked up a few bumps and bruises. ;-) Most of the people who hire scooters etc in Majorca probably never rode one before in their life (or since their last time on hol anywa...

Re: Cornering confidence
All good sound advice, be careful at the moment though as there is often bugger all grip on dry roads with the 3" coating of salt. Might as well be riding at Bonneville.

Mine's a cannondale trail SL1. Rides lovely, quite lean and fast with a good light wheelset.
