Re: College CCT help

Fitted my ROAS manuals yesterday, follwing the instructions it was a doddle. TBH the hardest part was getting the breather pipes on and off the airbox, also fuel pouring out of the tank when I pulled the pipe off ! I adjusted as recommended, hand tight then back off 1/4 turn and the bike sounds swe...

Re: College CCT help

BTW if I'v got up anyones back didnt mean to, I have a negitive side and usually see where a flaw can occur, been working within the hydraulic industry for the last 15 years and my current position is QA Manager, I always seek weaknesses in any design, try then to eliminate any chances of failure, s...

Re: College CCT help

I think you've been a bit hard on the guy there Tray. As I'm in the final month of my engineering degree, I can fully understand your point that a correctly designed spring is the best solution. Unfortunately you won't get many marks for that. A lot of the time you end up doing totally pointless ta...

Re: College CCT help

Ill add my tuppence worth in the hope that it will avert a flame war. I do understand the original post and realise that Beamish was asking for help to complete a college course which sometimes bears no resemblance to real world solutions (I know this because I work in the education sector). The wh...

Re: College CCT help

Guys not been trying to be a smart ass but, as firestorm owner we all know there may be a problem with auto ccts, the design is ok but the spring is weak yes???, solution is a better grade of wire material, problem for firestorm owners is it too old. As a fix we have been recomended manual ccts, a b...

Re: College CCT help

wouldn't a stronger spring cause it to over tension the chain though, i'd have thought the spring was made to allow the correct pressure on it. When I say stronger I mean one that wont break, or rust sorry Tray wasn't picking holes just asking a question no need for apoligies mate I no you were onl...

Re: College CCT help

??? sorry Tony but you did say they used gear driven cams, to me that sounds like problem sorted, they decided that using existing tensioner was not he way forward and to be fair this was a good decision. Back to discussion, cct failure was caused by a weak spring, solution make it stronger, design c...

Re: College CCT help

Oh btw I dont think Honda will re-design a replacement cct for older models, they might offer upgrades, if honda rely on college grad's to come up with a design I for one will be putting my bike in storage, a multi milion pound industry should be capable of employing a design engineer who has all th...

Re: College CCT help

Just my 2 cents worth but anyway here goes, supplying manual ccts for close to a year now, all reported failures were spring related rite? tensioner design was never the issue, it works fine and you should not have to worry about adjustment if it is a trusted auto tensioner. the fault is in the mate...
