Re: The RD400 drag bike

Rebuild is started. Phase 1 : A) get the crank rebuilt with new rods, all new brgs, labyrinth seal, trued up then welded B) get the barrels bored out to 2nd oversize, C) cut windows in the back of the pistons to suit the boost port. I would then collect these parts, rebuild the bottom end , put it ...

Re: VTR smoking when startup

I replaced the oil with Castrol 10w40 today. Still smoking when starting the bike and reving it. Hoping it’s not valve seals. Need to drive it tomorrow morning to get to work, hoping for the best. What colour is the smoke? Chris. Hi Chris, the color is a white grey almost. If the valve guide seals ...

IMG_5182.jpeg Pass How do you get away with the big elastic band on the rear brake pedal Al :?: :eh: Chris. Eagle eyes there Chris  The brakes return fine without it, but I like a bit of extra resistance on the pedal so I can feel what’s going on, so I add the rubber band. MOT man never questi...

Re: Thread Lock, what do you use?

Many thanks Tony for your infinite wisdom and informative reply   Your way of thinking is actually very much on my wave length. I had a reasonable number of old British bike's when I first started out riding motorbikes. Due to how much some of them vibrated, a check on accessible n...

Thread Lock, what do you use?

I went around 6 different motor factors and shops today looking for "Loctite 2400" thread lock, none of them had any in stock. I have been using Loctite for years and it's never let me down, so I was more than reluctant to change to a different make that most had. So in the end my wife ord...

Re: Gerald has been to stay.

Nothing to eat in the garage, unless you like chewing on iron. I got the tank off this afternoon, they were in the had dragged some crap in there and chewed the element but hadn't made it to the basement. Better pull the carbs off and clean them while I have the tank off. https://i.postimg.cc/DSj0X...

Re: Gerald has been to stay.

It's kept outside. I have mice in my garage, trying to keep them out is pointless as it's well ventilated; but they don't bother me so I don't bother them and have never tried getting rid of them. Mouse in the garage better than mouse in the house sorta thing. But mouses living on the jap bike is a...
