Re: what is it with nodding????

Couriers used to nod at each other when out of town (forget doing it on Tottenham Court Road lights at 5pm or you'd be like the Churchill Dog) and bus drivers on the same routes do too. Campervanners do it too (when yer all packed into the camper and watching the bikes whiz by, it's a right laugh wa...

Re: yup

The Firestorm is a primeval beast. An owner of a 98 myself, it's not about looks (as long as it doesn't look like a training shoe on steroids) but that said, the lines, shapes and proportions are spot on for the bike that it is. What makes the Firestorm unique for me is it's purity. Two hearts pumpi...

Re: HELP!!! Lost Key, steering lock on WTF can I do?

Unfortunately I had to hacksaw the steering lock bolt off because I couldn't get it out otherwise
That comes as a bit of a surprise to me but since I'm doing my forks this weekend anyway, I'll give it a go.

All the same, enjoy yer day and let us know how you got on (with pics).

Re: HELP!!! Lost Key, steering lock on WTF can I do?

Personally, I'd have a go at removing the lock undamaged but this means removing the top yolk and punch driving off of the two underside sheared bolts holding the switch in place. Despite the steering being locked (the locking pin is extended into the frame recess) I'm fairly sure the barrel can be ...

My Missus told me that if scorned, she'd paint my bike with bright colours and call it a Flowerstorm.

An Orange Storm on Hendon Lane, Finchley

About 4pm, before turning right onto the A1 off Hendon Lane in Finchley, spoke very briefly to a chap on an orange 97 Storm that had nice sounding cans! Lost each other at Mill Hill A41. Nice Storm (in need of a wash :D ) and again, nice sounding cans!

Re: *** IMPORTANT*** Swingarm and linkage bearings servicing

Hi All, cheers all for your comments. Point taken Tony on the lower bearing although on dismantling, that one was still packed with grease and in fine order (believe it or not) and I suspect that it doesn't get so much punishment as the bearing directly above the pipe. Indeed, seems like a manual an...

Re: *** IMPORTANT*** Swingarm and linkage bearings servicing

All done. And another great rapido service from David Silvers once again. Here's a few snaps: 1. The offending bearing assembly with new ones: http://www.imagebased.com/storm/linkages/bearings_old_and_new.jpg 2. The linkages: First the old ones: http://www.imagebased.com/storm/linkages/linkages_old....

Re: *** IMPORTANT*** Swingarm and linkage bearings servicing

Ach, a squeek developing, I'm tackling mine now and the rear bolt (7 / 20 on the fiche) was a bugger to shift. I popped a nut (17) onto the bolt (12) and had to batter it. I found the bearing left hand side collapsed about half a mil off-centre, brown and bone dry! With some persuasion (and a socket...

Thanks Wicki for your insight; I'm doing my linkages today. All popped out fine but for (surprise surprise) very stubborn git No.11 - that can wait until the FA cup is over.

Wye Valley / Monyash / Peak District Sun 24th

Went up to the Peak District for a couple of days and out on long walk, saw tons of bikes out. I spotted two Storms; A slick banana on the A6 in the Wye Valley (in amongst 40+ bikes south of Brushfield) and a nice clean fully dressed red one parked up on the square in Monyash. You lucky lads, it was...

Abba

Hi all With a wee bit of maintenance due this month (greasing those rear linkages) I recently grabbed an Abba stand with standard fittings second hand for a snip. After working the entire weekend, I had this fine sunny (but blowy) Monday off to play the Pipes out to Abba in Maldon for some Storm fit...

Re: ignition coil

I had a similar problem with coils (in that testing the coils primary and secondary circuit resistances does not always indicate a fault) and Pete (L) nailed it. If it helps; http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12528&start=15 (My second post on this page) Ensuring that the carb...
