Can't believe Chiswick Honda haven't heard of VTR tensioners failing!! I mean, would Honda UK contribute to the cost of a repair job on a 4yr old bike if mine was the first one to go pop? Hmm, me thinks not... My local dealer has had 3 bikes go at less than 15000 miles, and the mechanic who fixed mi...

Hi Al, Mine was the VTR that Honda supplied the parts for, free of charge. The dealer told me to phone 'em cos they couldn't do anything to help, but when I finally got thru to Honda they were very sympathetic, and the bike was only in the garage for just over a week. Total cost to me was £280, on ...

Hi Del, Thanks for the offer of the engine, but Honda are on the case as we speak... Total repair bill amounts to £560 - turns out the damage wasn't as bad as it could've been.... Just need 2 new tensioners, a camchain, just 1 valve, and assorted bits and bobs. No head damage at all, amazingly... T...

Progress report.... Spoken to Honda UK, and seems like they're prepared to pay the parts bill if I stump up for the labour charges. This of course is subject to an initial inspection by my local dealer, and will only apply if it was indeed a mechanical failure that really shouldn't happen at less th...

Thanks for replying guys.... Not very encouraged by Al's story though. Can't believe Honda could be so slack. I've tried calling their customer service number and only ever get the bloody ansaphone and, surprise surprise, they never call back. Hmm, great... I'll keep you all informed though. Thanks ...

Camchain tensioner failure!!!
Hi folks, Anyone experienced a camchain tensioner failure at relatively low miles? My 1999 VTR went bang at 150mph the other day... Can't imagine the damage inflicted, but know it wont be good. Still, at least it didn't kill me... Its done less than 15000 miles. I know of at least two other '99 VTRs...

Crash bobbin/mushroom thingys
Just booked my first ever track day for Cadwell next month, and whilst I have no intention of binning it, I'm thinking maybe those crash bobbin jobbies might be a good idea... Anyone had any experience of using these on VTRs? Any recommendations, or ones to avoid? Cheers folks
Steve :-)

Hey Scott, Definitely recommend Bridgestone BT010s. Not the cheapest tyre around (in the UK at least anyway), but for fast road use they really are very good. They warm quickly, grip well enough to get the pegs down ;-) and are the best tyres I've ever used in the wet. All that and they last pretty ...

Azaros in the wet....? Erm, yeah, i bought my secondhand '99 VTR with AV35/36s and they were good in the dry, but felt awful in the wet, especially over white lines, cats eyes, overbanding etc. They seemed to grip, but never really trusted them.... Junked them for BT010s - big improvement! Still, th...
