Re: Major c**k up, help required!
Good save! Has it recently been worked on? Seems odd to have randomly sheared off. Yep, totally my fault I think! I recently had the cam covers off to check clearances. I did them up l too tight (I’ve now ordered a torque wrench) but I know for sure it didn’t snap when I did it up! The only thing I...

Jet recommendations / carb work
I’m glad to say the bike it running amazingly now! 95% of the popping on decel is gone, 99% of the clunking is gone (it made 1 clunk noise on an hour ride) idles great now, and low rpm riding is actually pleasant! Thank you everyone for your tips and support, couldn’t have done it without you! Here’...

Re: Major c**k up, help required!
The good thing about shearing one of those cam cover bolts is, due to the shoulder on the bolt it stops the thread tightening up like a normal stud does, meaning it stays lose in the threads of the cylinder head. They are easy to shear though. I have managed to undo a sheared one by unscrewing it e...

First I packed the crevices with rags, then when drilling, regularly dip the drill bit into grease, this will make the shavings and dust stick to the bit, clean the bit lots and wipe with a rag as you gotony.mon wrote:So how did you stop drilling swarf from getting into the engine?

Major c**k up, help required!
Not a great thing to find out before my birthday ride…
Oil coming from the cam cover, snapped bolt (I noticed it was loose and it pulled right out.
I need a plan of action to fix this. I’m abosultly gutted

Re: Jet recommendations / carb work
Getting there indeed! Although I I didn’t think I’d have to sort all this out on a bike that was sold as running perfectly, I do love working on bikes and I’m always learning a lot so I’m not complaining! I got the carb boots on EBay, £33 for the pair just a we note. you have the front pilot screw ...

Re: Jet recommendations / carb work
Update! After a new set of carb boots, PAIR delete and a little play with the mixture screws, she’s running a lot smother! Still a little uneven at idle still, but nowhere near as bad as before and the stumbling/misfires/backfires have completely gone. I will balance the carbs again next week. I hav...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
While waiting for new carb boots to be delivered, I decided to do damage control from the evil scottoiler that the previous owner had on the bike. I only meant to clean the chain guard, whipped it off to find about 4mm of oil caked on the underside. Cleaned that all off then I could see all of the g...

Here’s the old plugs, looks like they had life left in them but I had a new set. Left is the front, right rear https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230325/1dc73c12ff3e208d398473ef8dc6cee9.jpg With modern fuel you can't read a plug like you used to so looking at them like that is of no good, although ...

Re: Jet recommendations / carb work
Those plugs have been runing pretty rich from the look of them. Cheers Fabio. I sprayed some carb cleaner around the carb boots while it was running and I have a leak! New boots ordered, when it comes to fitting them I’ll have a look at the new spark plugs which should identify any problems with my...
