Re: Compression test.

I’d tend to agree Tony. Someone on here described these engines as ‘tractors’

Re: How much backlash?

Hi Tony. Cush rubbers are tight - I put some plastic packers in there. Drive chain is brand new. This is just transmission I think (as in, everything else you mentioned) 😁

Re: Compression test.

Mmm.. very interesting and slightly worrying. I get your point Martin. I guess it would only be on the first compression stroke and with the precise amount of oil - as you say, if it’s less then it won’t hurt and much more will definitely not crank. I think most of it did end up coming out of the fr...

How much backlash?

I have the bike in 6th gear on a paddock stand. Plugs are out. First thing is I can only just about push the back wheel round.., then it will suddenly roll a bit as the cam lobes settle on. This is probably all fine, although I was expecting it to be quite a bit easier in 6th with no compression. Al...

Re: Torque Settings please..???

Good advice thank you. Good to know that I wasn’t missing something. 30 sounds good on the pegs. The sub frame ones will be different to each other i guess? Strange for them to miss such an important part.. I think they are all 10mm threads.. Torque settings are difficult for a novice as there’s tim...

Torque Settings please..???

Evening all, I seem to have a very special Haynes manual which is missing a number of torque settings. Todays requests are in the following two pics. 1) The two hex head bolts that hold the pillion footrest onto the 1” steel seat frame. https://i.postimg.cc/14FhcfjD/IMG-5818.jpg 2) The front of the ...

Re: How much clearance please!?

Wow, Chris you’re an absolute Saint. Thankyou so much. I hadn’t really considered that it wouldn’t be easy for others to measure, as I’ve got no calliper in the way, but of course it isn’t. I really appreciate you doing this. It does look as though it is down to the disk - but as you say.., a gap is...

Re: How much clearance please!?

I thought that too but it didn’t. Its position seems to be 0.5mm inside clearance, 2.5mm outside. Looking back at old photos, it’s how it was, and I don’t see how it can be put back any other way? Maybe it’s designed to be close to scrape the crap off the inner disk? I think the problem is that I do...

Re: How much clearance please!?

I wondered that but I’ve just checked the diagram and they are a different shape (4 & 5 in the pic) so can only go one way - I think. Over the whole axle, there are 4 spacers, 3 bearings a washer and a nut. They are all squeezed tight together, so the lateral position of the wheel (and therefore...

Re: *Barn find* - but is it worth it?

I’m really enjoying it. To think 2 months ago I didn’t even know they existed. The support on here has been invaluable.. I’m also quite in awe of of how clever the designers are at Honda.. how they came up with some of this stuff?? It’s hard enough re-building it - like giant adult Lego. Most of it ...

How much clearance please!?

Starting to reconstruct the back end. It’s had new bearings, seals and rear disk. I’m as certain as I can be that everything is in the correct place. I haven’t torqued the rear nut yet, but there is only a fag paper between the inner side of the new brake disk and the alloy plate which the calliper ...

Re: *Barn find* - but is it worth it?

Just an update. 2 months in, hundreds of hours cleaning, ordering new parts, checking this forum etc etc and I’m now starting to go forwards. Some shiny bits are going on. Hopefully by June, it might actually move 😆

Re: Fuel strainer Screen Set

I used harpic xxx power plus toilet cleaner. Swilled a whole bottle around then put a load of boiling water in. It’s cone out pretty good. Then half an hour of spraying the hose in. I plan to do it again tmro to get the last bits. Cheers for heads up on the strainer. I can’t believe it’s £50 for a p...
