Re: Hi from Reading

Well, that TourMax rebuild kit for the vacuum fuel tap is rubbish. Seemed OK initially, but when I filled the tank to the top from a jerry can, the added pressure must have overcome the spring and diaphragm or something. So when I tested it today, the tap stayed on, with the knobule turned fully ant...

Re: Hi from Reading

Decided to fit the Mac stainless split flange to the rear to match the front I did a few weeks ago. Pacing myself  Bit trickier than the front to cut the old flange off, without grazing the downpipe or bike frame / shock etc. https://am3pap003files.storage.live.com/y4meyic1U0AsCgCdelnDLPMzgGeSA...

At least you didn't lose any small parts from inside the switch, good job, well done  Chris. That explains it. The owner wasn't that old compared to me!....still you'll have a well sorted machine. Roll on some spring warmth  Yep, can't wait to get out on it  Been using my 1990 'hack' ZZR11 in all this salty slime. Every year I think it'll be its last...but it just keeps o...

Re: Hi from Reading

Fixed the LHS indicators sometimes not flashing yesterday. Knew it wasn't a flasher relay problem, as the RHS indicators always work fine. Took the switch cluster apart, and found dried-out hardened grease in there, which was preventing contact of the small brass slider to the LHS switch post. Clea...

Re: Hi from Reading

You were lucky. That does sound like the bike I rode 5 yrs ago. Back then the battery stank after the short ride and I warned the seller. That and the crazy alarm. Doesn't sound like it did any running in 5 yrs 😲 It must be the same. Was parked up for quite a few years as the previous owner was ill...

Re: Hi from Reading

Bought a new Yuasa. Old battery was firmly stuck in the battery box, so took ages to lever it out. Discovered why. It was swollen due to over voltage charging by the duff RR which was on the bike when I bought it. Surprised that it hadn't ruptured! 8O https://am3pap003files.storage.live.com/y4m-BzJH...

Re: Hi from Reading

All back together. Manual CCTs purring...no louder than the autos as far as my hearing can tell. Repaired vacuum fuel tap working with no leaks. Took a few attempts to start as carbs needed priming. Does need a new battery though, as 5 initial attempts to start it flattened it (from what my Optimate...

Re: Hi from Reading

Yep, mine's the 16 litre tank version, also with the basic analogue clocks. Refitted the carbs, airbox and tank today after putting a new repair kit in the vacuum fuel tap. The rubber piece that stops the flow when no vacuum is applied was cracked and dried out. I blame stale E10 fuel that had been ...

Re: Hi from Reading

That's what I thought on my cheapo multi-meter, so I also got my old works auto-ranging Fluke meter out...and that reads out 5.12kohm on the display. Mystery. But the bike rode fine on the 50ish mile ride home from the dealership I bought it from. I'll just put it back together. Must be me measuring...
