chaps, thanks for the ideas - today i've been playing in the garage with my spanners + my firestorm, mmmm....spanners.... IMHO it sounds very much like the tension of your replacement CCT springs is not set correctly :!: Either on one or both tensioners. Chris. I've stripped the cct's and backed the...

my firestorm is a slapper !

folks, i've not posted in a while - happily enjoying my 'storm which has proved very reliable - but now I've got an minor (?) problem...a slapping noise from the engine.. :? now before you all go jumping in and tell me to change cct's.... I'm fairly mechanically minded, the bike is very well s...

a final point to add - before adding a spacer just check how soft your rear shock is - winding preload on if its set low or replacing it if fooked will do the same as a spacer - ie stop it squatting so much and keep a decent steering head angle.

cheers

hi karlos, as a quick response if you are on about cam timing then an easy way to get in the right ballpark is to : - remove rear cylinder cover - set it to TDC on compression stroke - cam lobes point together like / \ and i think RT lines up on crank marker and markers on the cams line up with top ...

no point guessing chap, get your multimeter out on the starter motor and battery and see where your power is going - reg/rec is not going to create a starter problem on its own - it would only over-charge battery or allow the battery to drain - a drained battery wont bump start ( no spark )... optim...

hi ozi, no easy win on this as sirch said - its one of those things that if some one has done this before then you will get a post and all the thinking will be done for you - otherwise your in pioneering territory. One thing you could do is take it to any auto-electrician they can simply find out wh...

hi ozi, 2 start points, oil gives the damping action in the fork - otherwise you have fresh air and a spring, so it would seem you need to check the oil level, more oil better upto correct level and then if you over-fill you will have a very hard ride. ( inthe worst case you've got damaged fork inte...

hi blb, only way to be certain is to take rear rocker cover off and line the crank pulley mark up on rear tdc marker and check the rear cams are pointing towards each other - do cct - then do maths ( find my post on recent manual cct's post ) to move the front cylinder into the right position send m...

balancers are easy to use and can smooth out the vibes on your firestorm, hardest part is getting the vaccum hoses onto the take offs, the front may not be fitted with a jet - just a bolt instead, the rear is the vacc. pipe for the fuel tank - you may need to splice it keep the bike running and take...

mr bean, put your multimeter on it when the problem occurs and see what voltages you've got - check the voltage on the starter motor connector, it sounds like a connection is breaking or earthing when the engine is hot - you'll have to work back from the starter motor connector on the starter itself...

steve, you say that the ' battery sounds like its gonna give up'...i guess what you mean is that the starter sounds like it is turning slower than normal. check the resistance from the starter lead to the starter pin - it could have corroded and gone high resistance when bike switched off - put volt...
