Re: New VTR purchase, bike stopping after 1 minute riding.
Hello, Welcome! These bikes are a blast. I think you may have the same problem(s) I did. Here is a run down from easy to hard. The clue is that the previous owner says it only runs right on a full tank. This tells us that head pressure created by a stack of fuel is necessary to push fuel past an obs...

Re: Engine Loses Power after 1.5 miles
RESOLVED!!! After new coils, leads, rubber caps, carb bowl gaskets, and the big rubber isolators between carbs and intake (this time around) After new vacuum lines, fuel lines, fuel diaphragm (a couple years ago) the bike would run fine for 1.5 miles then barely run. The rear cylinder was going cold...

Re: Engine Loses Power after 1.5 miles
I doubt it is an issue with the pulse generator. When they go bad you usually see erratic running at higher rpms and it slowly gets worse and lower in the rpm range as the generator degrades more. I would take the advice of trying to open the tank when it is happening and see what that does as it d...

https://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/download/file.php?id=1326&mode=view Unless I'm mistaken the take off spout for the rear cylinder vacuum hose on the petrol tap is normally at 90 degrees to the vent spout, not sure if that would make any difference :eh: Chris. High Chris, I can clock the fuel valv...

Re: Engine Loses Power after 1.5 miles
Many moons ago, mine behaved like this and no-one could find the fault, until one day I started to take things apart systematically and the front plug cap/boot had a split in the rubber. Any moisture in the plug well, when warm, was "sucked" up the crack and then caused a track to earth a...

Re: Engine Loses Power after 1.5 miles
does the bike keep running if you pop open the fuel cap ? might be the tank breather blocked Fabio Star, thank you for the reply. With these symptoms, I was CERTAIN the vent was the problem. I popped open the tank cap during the symptoms (requires a stop because I have only one key) and even tried ...

Re: Engine Loses Power after 1.5 miles
Nothing was done before the symptoms. It was 5000 miles of bliss. Several things (flow test, a coil replacement that turned out to be non related) have been tried since. Thank you for the thinking

Re: Ignition Coils - which is which?
Any resolution? I'm having the same issue. Search "Engine Loses Power" for my description. This started off sort of sporadic and now the bike bogs and loses power between 1.5 and 2 miles from home. I did check and replace the screen in the tank and the diaphragm when I bought the bike and ...

Re: How to Check Coil - Rear cylinder cold
OK, I bought a new coil. The Primary Resistance is the same. The Secondary resistance is different between the new coil and the old one. The new Coil is installed and the bike runs fine in the garage but we have temperatures below freezing along with snow and ice on the roads so it may be a couple w...

How to Check Coil - Rear cylinder cold
Hello, INTRODUCTION I bought a low miles 1998 VTR 1000 a two years ago. It ran poorly and thanks to advice from this forum it is perfect. I did the CCT Stopper Mod, replaced the voltage Regulator, TPS adjustment, new fuel petcock diaphragm, new fuel hoses, new fluids, removed the Pair system, rebuil...

Re: Clutch slipping in 3rd/4th gear all of a sudden
Is this resolved? If not, do you have adequate slack at the clutch handle? If the slack is inadequate, blead the clutch system at the slave. If you get slack and then the slack goes away after a few clutch applications, drain and remove the plastic clutch fluid res and look for two small holes under...

Re: Need clutch help please!
I'm pretty sure the problem is in the Clutch Master Cylinder. EASY FIX! The same thing happened to me. I kept bleeding the clutch system, it would work for a dozen applications and then slip. The indication is that all the clutch slack would go away. If you remove the Master from the bars then remov...
