Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Spoke to my local man about a new rear tyre yesterday. Today went for a nice long run through the Yorkshire Dales and got a rear puncture 20 miles from home. Delivered bike to tyre place on the back of a truck..... T'was a BT016, supposedly new 2.2k miles ago. Totally trashed. But, I'm getting anoth...

Re: Dementia. Cruel world.

I tend to see a lot of the carers when I'm out for a pint every now and again and always get a few rounds in for them. Unsung heroes as far as I am concerned. I spend a fair bit of time in care homes (and no, I'm not that old.... yet). I look after their IT. All of the staff I've seen are...

Re: Africa twin what do we think ?

Best one I ever had was an old twin shock XR600 with a 20 litre tank and supertrapp muffler. Did the french rally/raids on it as well as the London commute (kerb? What kerb?). Boring on the motorway but what isn't. Once you got the knack it was even easy (ish) to start. You just had to be COMMITED! ...

Re: CCT in Midlands (or close enough to travel to)

Aaah, Middlesbrough, the jewel in Sauron's crown. You've missed the best bits. The finest beaches in England, the largest county with the smallest population. The best Salmon river and miles of biking roads with very little traffic. Plus..... The girls in the Toon wear very lttle more than crop tops...

Re: CCT in Midlands (or close enough to travel to)

If you dont fancy loydie I'm in Evesham Everyone fancies me  even at 4:40 in the morning :-) If anyone fancies me at this time in the morning they must be weird.. I'm in the same boat, 16k and rising on a '98. I COULD do it myself but I don't have the time or the space. Any recommendations fo...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Just back from a blast up the B6399 to Howick where I stopped. 128 miles on the odo and 12.9 litres went into the 16l tank. I passed by where Watty's working but I think I was a little early for him. First time on the B6399 and it's definately something to sample if you're up this way.

Tyre Pressures

More idle curiosity. Honda suggest 38F 42R. This seems rather high to me. I read elsewhere people running around the 30 mark (psi y'know). Any comments on this?

Re: firestorm smokes from left exhaust

Hi, when I start up first thing in the morning my bike smokes from the left exhaust while on side stand Both cylinders are running and the bike runs fine any ideas why this is ? I have read on this forum that it's a bad idea to warm the bike up on the side stand. It promotes failure of the front CC...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Had a good run down and back up the A68 today. I've changed my mind on bar end weights. Extended running over 5k and the vibes do get to you. On the way back I caught an open top Aston Martin and followed him for a few miles. The old guy (probably nearly as old as me) was a maniac. Some of his overt...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

The work on the bobbins made a difference. Much smoother braking, especially coming to a stop. Left home in the dry, went through rain. Met instructor at cafe (dry and coffee outside). Had a look at his Ducati 1098 which he wanted me to have a ride on... Bloody phone call, emergency at work, gulped ...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

Personally, the only way to get back into riding (and catching up with modern handling and technology), is to book a rider-refresher course with a qualified instructor. That way, yer getting good, reliable, and proven riding skills. I agree, and that's exactly what I'm doing. It's been very worthwh...

Re: Nice, quiet motorbikles

As MacV2 says, on an open road or a motorway like the M2 (know it well, old Gravesend lad here) I don't think noise helps very much. But, trickling through town I think it does. I use a blip of the throttle (straight through Harpoon cans) to get people's attention and it seems to work.

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today

My bobbins move! WOOHOO!! - Excellent news that you've got movement. They may need going over again (have a rest for a day, then go do 'em again!). You'll find afterwards, that the feel through braking is 100% better. You don't get juddering through the bars, and you're saving the discs from...
