Re: Long Termers
I sold my 05 VTR, several months ago, after long and painful deliberations. I brought it back from the dead and it was special to me. It was one of the most fun bikes I had ever owned and also one of the most narrow usage bike I had. It was only a matter of time before I got into serious trouble wit...

Re: Timing marks not aligning
I worried over that timing mark issue for the longest time. I set and reset them with the same results as you.

Re: Life Changes
I rode a 2018 Street Glide, on the cart paths of a local golf club with their permission. We sponsored a Hole-In_one contest and the HD was the grand prize. No one won the prize. It was quite an experience as the Street Glide is not my usual type of ride. https://di-uploads-development.dealerinspire...

Re: Life Changes
They know I like sport or sport touring bikes. They refer to my VFR800 as a "crotch rocket" not realizing that in my world it is actually a gentleman's touring mount. I rode it to work and parked it in the back. They knew it belong to someone that worked there but they couldn't figure out ...

Re: Life Changes
Let us know when the H-D LiveWire arrives and what's it like to ride. https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/31/16955928/harley-davidson-electric-motorcycle-2019 It's funny you should say that but I have a serious lust for a truly good electric bike. I worked for a Zero dealer and got to ride them and I w...

Life Changes
So, I dropped out of sight for a while, (again) but thought I would pop in and tell you what has been going on. Yes, I still have my Storm. No, I don't get to ride is as much as i would like. You see I took a new job. I work as the director of marketing for a Harley Davidson dealership. It's actuall...

Re: Cure for clutch rattle anyone??
I got it back together with the anti-rattle gear installed (correctly) with one tooth turned clockwise to load the clutch basket gear and the results are mixed. First off the Storm is just a mechanically noisy mill so there was no change in that. It did cure the clucking and the rattle at idle. It n...

Re: Cure for clutch rattle anyone??
Well I got tired of my Storm rattling like a Ducati at idle. It clucks like a chicken and has done ever since the rebuild. I have been planning on looking into this for some time. What I have actually been doing is sitting in front of my computer all winter, warmed my hands on hot mugs and procrasti...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
That 70s vintage JLG 33RTS rough terrain lift sounds ideal, much safer than working off a ladder  Good to hear from you Jim, Chris. It's funny but the engine in the lift is a Ford VSC 411. This is the overhead valve, four cylinder used in a host of cars including the Ford Fiesta III GFS an...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Oh I'm alive I just don't look like nothin'. It's freaking cool here (or cold for Texas) right at freezing and I just don't have the gear or the gumption for it. My last project, a 1995 Honda CB1000 Super Four turned out well and I was riding that a bit before the weather turned. It's freight train ...

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
I haven't done much to the VTR because I haven't had to. It just runs like it's supposed to and even if I wanted to do something it's cold out in the shop. I have become somewhat of a pansy in my dotage preferring to camp by the heater and wait for spring. I did buy the old girl a race stand. I have...

Re: blue smoke from both the mufflers
Having done both I would say that pulling both heads is a piece of cake compared to swapping engines.tastethefloor wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2017 4:20 pm I got another engine for that bike with a lot much less km, I was thinking in a swap..the amount of work is quite the same

Re: blue smoke from both the mufflers
how is possible to have both cyl rings and bores worn? the bike run well In my opinion I have got more likely a valve problem, the smoke appear for a while on acc and then disappear now the problem is which head need to be serviced... :?: Since the problem seems to appear on hard acceleration I wou...

Re: New Storm owner
I rebuilt my engine using the case and internals of a different engine. The crank and the bearing races were scored and rather than take a change I negotiated a set of internals plus the pistons, rods and oil pump from an ebay seller. My bike has 32,000 but the engine is fresh. BTW the Storm makes a...

Hi! I really like you bike since I have its twin. Yep. I have a 2005 VTR1000 that looks just like that. I'll bet mine has the same scratched too.
