Re: Pissing fuel after standing for nearly 2 years
Hi Folks, To finish this little saga (& on a positive note thankfully!)... I got the bike MOT'd, oil/filter change & & carbs balanced & it seemed fine except pootling along when it felt like it was missing a beat or about to run out of fuel. There was also an issue with the engine be...

Re: Pissing fuel after standing for nearly 2 years
Good news! Bike passed its MOT on Friday, no advisories despite one for a notch on the head bearing last time & a pretty old front tire. But I don't get it back until Tues pm once it's has oil & filter change & carbs balanced. And I had planned to ride the bike to the MOT place, but I ju...

Re: Pissing fuel after standing for nearly 2 years
I got the bike back together last Sunday and was fairly confident it would fire up without leaking, but no sign of starting at all, then I saw a drip of petrol, despair! But I hadn't been sure whether the petcock was in the on position & after playing with that, success and no leaks! Idling very...

Re: Pissing fuel after standing for nearly 2 years
Not yet I'm afraid, I've had the carbs cleaned & serviced but am now waiting for some better weather before reassembling the bike.

Re: Pissing fuel after standing for nearly 2 years
Given your honest response and the amount of time it's taken so far it might be best if you get a shop to sort it for you. It sounds to me like a diaphragm problem but could easily be a stuck float, either one is easily diagnosed by pulling the carbs off and having a visual inspection. You should b...

Re: Pissing fuel after standing for nearly 2 years
So I got round to removing the carbs yesterday and am pretty damn sure that the fuel was pouring out of one of the two short air vent tubes that come from each carb and end in between them. I think that means Chris's theory about one of the needle-valves not closing off completely is probably the pr...

Re: leaking petrol under tank
Hi, I've got exactly the same issue after less than 2 years under a cover & posted like you did recently- see: https://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=45502. Unfortunately I haven't got round to fixing it yet so can't say what the problem, but if & when I do I'll let you know. It seem...

Thanks Chris & Pete!
Guess I'll work on that basis then, will update when I get round to it.

Pissing fuel after standing for nearly 2 years
Hi folks, any advice please? Having been off the road since Dec 2020 & only started a few times during that period, the bike starts & can run normally for minutes, but pisses the contents of the tank onto the floor & conks out (I think when it runs out of petrol). The leak is a proper fl...

1st time back on forum for years update
Hi Folks, I haven't logged into the forum for years, not least because I bought a small car in Dec 2020 (old Vauxhall Corsa 1.2, best driven granny style, don't like long bike rides when it gets cold in winter!) at which point I wasn't really using the Firestorm any more, so I took it off the road. ...

Re: Spilt Custard...
Sh*t, sorry to hear that Mac. Thinking about it, there's way too much crashing going on round here for my liking, you, Carl, Marty, that's most of the VTRers I've met (mass wise, incl. Marty   ). Anyway, I'm getting paranoid. Does God play dice? I f*ckin' 'ope not! Makes me think how much ...

Re: What's annoyed you today??
(On Sunday) Waking up, going to make a cup of coffee & finding I was wading through water in the kitchen. I live on a boat... I'd been pumping out the bilge Sat eve & had stuck the end of the hose pipe into the river. When the pump cut out a reverse siphon kicked in. Fortunately I didn't sin...
