Re: What to do about this rust?

That's interesting - if you can paint straight over the rust and it didnt come straight back then I dont blame you as it will save a lot of time sanding and polishing Like you say - that part of my rear sub frame is pretty rusty and will need a lot of sanding and what not to get it looking new again...

Re: Changing the CCT

Im not arguing that it doesnt need doing guys or you can do it a quicker way, and the CCT on my bike doesnt need doing either - it was done at 20k miles and bike at 28k now

I was just curious as I remember it being so easy on the CBR but it sounds a much more involved job on the VTR

Re: What to do about this rust?

Ok mate, will have a look for it at the local car spares shop and see what they have...thanks The description says paint straight over rust - but there is no way im painting straight over some rust without cleaning back to bare metal first...I wonder if anyone is lazy enough to paint straight on to ...

Re: Front fork dust seals

Lol - makes sense I had sort of hoped that they were an O shape with a split in so that you could remove and refit in situ... Right so ill just take the forks off to refurb them anyway and do this at the same time.... Does changing the oil and oil seals seals add much time and difficulty to this job?

Re: What to do about this rust?

Split hose over the bar when painted is a good idea....

Just ordered a hugger anyway, but think ill do that with the hose to make sure this doesnt get any worse

Re: Front fork dust seals

While they are off? Is it a front forks off job while bike hung in mid air even to replace fork seals?

What to do about this rust?

See picture... This is under the rear sub frame. Im thinking sand and paint, but it looks as though a good thick layer of this piece of metal has already rusted away, and I guess without welding a new piece it cant be replaced. It really needs a hugger :( http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m296/cjw3...

Front fork dust seals

I got the new VTR today and found that the dust seals are hard and cracked, so will replace them, anyone know if it is a difficult job?

Re: Changing the CCT

Does it jump even when the bike is stationary and you just release the CCT or is it a precaution to line up the engine?

Im surprised that the cam chain doesnt rattle with the VTR before the CCT fails, with the CBRs they make a rattling noise for a good while before you change the CCT.

Changing the CCT

Hey guys, I have read the posts regarding changing the CCTs and stuff, but I dont really understand why it is so difficult... My first bike was a CBR 600F and the CCT started to make a rattle on that at about 8000 miles. I bought a new one and changed it myself fairly easily, just wind it back, lock...

Re: Asbestos?

Yeah I suppose, not sure how a piece of solid white asbestos reacts to water, but the fibres themselves that cause the problems are soluble and can be controlled with water. Exhaust gaskets definitely used to contain asbestos. The new ones usually state 'non asbestos exhaust gasket' or something sim...

Re: Asbestos?

Yep, in the UK, they still use it in Canada and they lobby our government to lagalise it again. I work in construction so have done asbestos courses etc....its a horrible horrible thing....tiny quantities arent an issue - It only takes 1 single microscopic asbestos fibre to kill you. People dont rea...

Asbestos?

Just downloaded the workshop manual and noticed there is a warning about asbestos...

Asbestos was still in use up to 2000, so what is the chance that there may be asbestos somewhere in the bikes brakes or something?

Not sure I want to be messing around with it if there is

Re: New VTR :-)

So will the type off the CBR125 that are twice the size fit straight to the VTR with no modification needed to the frame or anything? There is room for them in the original location?
