Bought one of these today Solar Battery Charger for £9.99. The alarm runs the battery down this time of year when I don't get much running done. Fairly new around here so if this is against the forum rules sorry, I have no connection with Maplins just thought it was a neat idea.

against the forum rules
We have rules? No, we like anything that saves us money! I use an Optimate as the bikes are in the garage over winter, so littlee sun would get through!

As its from Maplins, when the battery is fully charged does it go "ding dong ding, Hi de Hi"?

I have used one of these as a battery top-up on the Suzuki 600 I used to own. Worked OK. Only needs light (not sunlight) to work. You can tell if it is producing a current by the blue led at the end. If it is flashing it is producing!!

Timbo.
I use an Optimate now but was lucky as it came with the bike (along with loads of other stuff). Very good piece of kit. Well worth the money IMHO (even though mine was 'free').

The Lotus Seven Club of GB of which I am an Area Organiser have just had a bulk buy of these Optimates and there are a couple of spare unit left I believe

Cost?

£27.50 + £5.00 p&p.

And optional extras

Wall Bracket £5.60 + £1.50 p&p.

2.5m Extension Cable £4.80 + £1.00 p&p.

Let me know if you are interested!

Optimates, brilliant....
When i had my old yamaha, i ended up buying two new batterys in the space of 4 months (winter months).

Since ive been using the optimate, no new batterys. And now the bikes always ready for sunshine(if and when it turns up)..
