Removing and doing up front sprocket?

Post by Tempest »

Not decided if I'm going to mess with it yet, but...............................

If I wanted to change the front sprocket.....
Assuming this nut is REAL tight.

Whats the best way to hold the thing still whilst you're doing it up?

Don't want to put strain on the chain (so I assume you do it up without the chain on?

Do you just put the bike in 1st gear and use that to stop it turning (or will that strain a gear inside the engine?)

Any recommended (easy) ways of doing it?

Thanks :)

use the back brake and chain, will be fine. Don't use the engine at all as when you are doing it up you are rotation the engine backwards and the pressure is on the cct's, you don't want to damage them now.

Don't be afraid of snapping the chain(if you can, I'll buy you a new one  )
If it can move my lardy A$$ at over 160 you don't stand a chance of breaking it

Ok thanks....

If I do decide ever to change the front sprocket, I shall get the chain onto it, and do up using the rear brake/chain method as you suggest.

Just wanted to make sure the best method.

Cheers :)
