Remember a few weeks ago there was a topic about headlight bulbs after a bit of searching around came across this company in Leeds

They do bike conversion kits for H4 bulbs for £139. I am going to get one of these soon as the headlight on my storm is crap after trying various bulbs. I will post the results i get on here when i get the kit. If anyone has used these kits before could you please post and let me know. :D

If you want the 100% truth, HID is the way to go a storm. Even at, ahhuuum, none legal speeds on b roads at night, low beam is enough. Because the kits I supply are a true hi/lo beam xenon, when you flick to high beam, you actually, how can I put it, lose some of the definition of your high beam at the moment. That isn’t to say you can't see more, just that Xenons are designed to pick out whites/reflections etc, and when they aren’t seeing this they sort of disperse. I will be honest in saying this as when I first fitted mine I thought, mm, low beam, could not be better, daylight at night, but I was a bit let down with the high beam, till I realized what it was doing.

The way the H4 bulb changes from low to high, if you didn’t already know, is it has a solenoid on the back which physically moves the filament back and forth the right amount.

Down to the kits, be careful as there are a lot of rubbish ones around. Problem with the storm is you have 1 bulb. If this fails down a B road, well you can see where I am coming from. Also the design and shape of the bulb is a major part of a H4 conversion. Try pulling your bulb out, even less than a millimeter & see how it buggers the beam pattern up!.

The last part of the puzzle is the ballast. Cheaper kits will require higher voltage to be stable, hence running power from the battery. Also, size & length of wires, (which can't be cut/extended from ballast to bulb), play a large part in installation, neatness etc. If you get the right size ballast it will fit just below the clocks, sort of behind the side light, totally hidden from view, & although they are waterproof, again, because you only have the 1 bulb, adds a bit more weather protection on top of the sealant on the ballast.

What about a discount for group orders?

Who ever fancies the new headlight could get in touch with Sparkz and put down a small deposit or something and then he can sell the kits in batches of 10. i.e. wait until 10 people have ordered and then invoice for the outstanding monies and then despatch the kits or fit them etc

Thanks for the info sparkz i now know a little about HID :lol: I am very interested in a kit for my storm could you p.m or e-mail me a price for your kit and also if you can do discount for a few kits as i have some freinds with various bikes and cars that may be interested if the price is right.

I don't know how these lights work but I have a query...........

Normaly we can't put brighter bulbs in our bikes due to heat poss damaging the lens etc.

Do these VERY BRIGHT bulbs not get that hot then?

Hiya peeps.

Right, for a single H4 that WILL work on the Storm, (I should know as it is the same one I run myself), we are gonna be looking at a single for £130. My problem is I have to buy them in a pair, ie, a cars worth. I can get a few £££ knocked off, but I have to buy in packs of 10 pairs, ie 20 bikes. I may be able to do a deal if I supply a full twin bulb kit to one person & they split it and post etc. Remember, different cars & bikes use different bulbs. A group buy is feasible, just depends how many interested parties we can get. Unfortunately like I posted earlier, you do get what you pay for, and although not being quite PIAA standard, touch wood, I haven't had 1 failure yet.

As far as heat & power is concerned, they run a fair bit cooler than a halogen, and are only rated actually at 35w, (ignore the 20k volts required to get them running :wink: ). Your battery and rectifier will thank you.

I'm not just saying this, but seeing is believing & once you have rode/drove with a HID setup, you just can't go back to candle powered halogen, there is that much of a difference.

Cheers gang, excuse the late post, but pub/food/beer gets me a bit hyper :P Any more info or help anyone wants, feel free to ask about anything electrical. Oh, btw, the only other big mod required is a £5 sidelight bulb to sort of match the white light, yellow sidelight just doesnt cut it, and looks so 'yesterdays light' :roll:

have you had your bike MOT'd with the new set up, were there any comments or problems with it.

No probs with mot's etc as they are fully 'E' marked. Mines been through absolutely no problem, and if the examiner failed it, you are totally in your right to contest it.

Again, I know I keep saying it, but beware the cheaper ones as a lot are not 'E' marked, so again, you pays your money, you takes your chance. Mine are totally 100% legal. No probs with other road users flashing you, unless you leave it on high beam, or have a badly/illegally adjusted headlight as standard :oops: .
