Newbie with poss daft question :D

Post by sparrowlegs »

I currently own a Yamaha TRX 850 and i'm seriously considering buying an R reg VTR1000 firestorm but i am worried about the Cam chain thing.
My freind had one and his engine lunched its self when it threw its cam chain off !!!!
The one i'm looking at has full service history so is it a good chance that the cam tensioners will have been kept an eye on?
Many thanx, Caroline xxxxxx

I've booked mine in for 16k service+cct change seem's like a good idea to change them for piece of mind.
I'm sure the funny noises are just in my helmet. :?

Mine started ticking at about 20,000 miles so had em changed, quite cheap to change them, so unless you are really hard on the bike you will nearly always have some warning.
Or you could have new ones fitted every other service or even change em for manual ones.
it may be clever, but its not big.

Had my bike serviced at the beginning of this month At Bernie Leigh Motorcycles in Southampton (who is now the only remaining Honda Dealer in town!)

I had the CCT's changed as part of the 12,000 mile service. CCT's were £41.27 each and the labour to change them was £90, so it cost me £172.54 (including VAT) but as others have said it's peace of mind. :D :D :D

Mine lasted until about 70,000kms & I got plenty of warning. Certainly shouldn't put you off buying a Storm!
If you ate yourself would you become twice as big or simply disappear?
