Re: Exhaust Mods Finished
Looks great; better than low and high-mount IMO. Nice job!

Re: Exhaust Mods Finished
Looks awesome! Just a simple cut, bend, reweld with a bit of replacement tube???

Re: Exhaust Mods Finished
Really simple.
(1) I made a single cut through approx 60% of the link pipes as shown below. I drilled small holes at the ends of the cuts to prevent the cuts from cracking more.
(2) Made up exhaust hangers to suit where I wanted the cans to be.
(3) Ease the exhaust cans up to the new hangers allowing the link pipes to deflect into position and bolt up.
(4) Weld up. My guy cut slithers of stainless steel tube to suit the gap which was 8 to 10mm in my case reducing to zero. Stainless steel welded into position and job done.
Here's the finished job. Can't really be seen as the welding is generally on the underside of the pipes which are partly hidden by the footpegs.

Bugger I've just realised if I attempt it my givi top box bracket will be in the way of the pipes!

Re: Exhaust Mods Finished
Good idea and result, but for my taste the welding could be prettier.
Stainless is so thankful for good preparation and proper rod/needle/lens/gas combinations.
For example this is what I did from a set of stock end cans by cutting them off and weld on a set of formerly high-up sharks.
(And I'm not even a trained welder but just an ambitious amateur)

Ha Ha, you've seen Honda's efforts on the collectors ;)

Re: Exhaust Mods Finished
Good point, but I was more referring to my own expectations on welding :-)
BTW: have a look at Suzuki welds and you'll never complain about Honda anymore. Especially aluminum on locations you don't see is horrible there.
Generally all OEM's focus on quick fabrication not on aestheticis wherever you don't look. And here MIG done by "trained monkeys" is the weapon of choice which usually can't compete to TIG done by skilled staff.
In your case a bit of grinding / polishing could have served as a camouflage, but that door is still open...

Re: Exhaust Mods Finished
Old thread i know but have to say that looks brilliant although the weight saving is a bonus with after market but that looks spot on pal.
Re: Exhaust Mods Finished
That's the sort of angle I'd like on mine - looking good. The VRM on my VTR is very close to yours Y4** RRV - I had to double take!
