Hey all! My names Joe, and I’m from Manchester. Recently got myself a lovely (shite) VTR1000 Firestorm and despite it being a shed, it’s instantly grown on me to the point that she’s a keeper within a week!

Bike is a ‘99, and with about a million previous owners, and some very dodgy previous repairs (and what looks like a heavy crash at some point) she needs some love to get her back to former glory! So here’s the start of it. 31,000 miles, and when I got her running Absolutely awfully. Spluttering, coughing, dying randomly. A day in the workshop (I work for a Honda main dealer, lucky for me!) the issue was found, and a load of dodgy repairs sorted. Oil/filter done whilst I was there. As well as a caliper service, brake and clutch fluid change/flush, and a damned good clean of the chain/sprockets and a proper lube. Running like a totally different bike. Massive power/torque, loud, and just awesome. Well happy.

Next stage. Swing arm change. The current one is all gouged where she’s been down the road. Picked up a replacement from eBay described as being in awesome condo.... awesome it was not. Marks and corrosion all over it. Got a refund and set about painting the sides with some trusty tough black and I’m really happy with the result. This will be powder coated next year along with the frame. I’ll keep this thread updated regularly! Also, if you know of a decent 6 spoke front for sale I’m in the market! I may have just bought a fireblade rear........ so it begins.

Looks like mice have gpt into the Chinese rear plastics and footrest heel guards. Nice tidying job on the swingarm. Has it got fitted a plastic tank cover?

It’s a chinese fairing kit indeed. The fitment in this pic was awful. I’ve since adjusted it in some places and it does look a whole lot better..... it does have a tank cover but it actually fits really nice. And the tank underneath isn’t marked so that’s a bonus!!

I will keep an eye out for some original panels (in any colour)..... I’m thinking black with gold wheels, or white with gold wheels eventually. Long road ahead!

Where abouts in Manchester are you ? I could well be close by.

I drive past Hunts every time I go to see my daughter.... she was on Mauldeth road for a while, so your building was my landmark to turn left she is now out in Levenshulme, but I still come in on the A34 past Hunts. one day I will drop in and ask for a test ride

Well, here’s todays progress!

First off, started by changing the rear wheel bearings and the Cush drive rubbers. This made a massive difference to the gear change on the bike. No more clunky gearchanges. Awesome!

Next up was a strip/clean/lube of the rear linkage. This was in preparation for the swing arm change in a could of weeks..... bearings were all in great condition. No play, no seized bolts. Bearings were packed with blue marine type grease. Super waterproof.
Also threw a front tyre on her to match the nearly new rosso 2 on the rear. Great tyres, perform in both wet and dry conditions and warm up nice and fast. Win win win.
The last of the work whilst in work was drilling and tapping the bottom of the new swing arm for the shark fin that was on the old one. I quite like it. This is currently being painted gloss black, just to offset it from the satin of the swing arm a little.

Finally was a damned good scrub and degrease when I got home. The colour of the foam coming off the bike was disgusting. She looks a whole lot better for it!
For those who haven’t noticed, yes, she has a 2-1! I love the system on the bike. It’s not a hack job, they’re built as 2-1 and once cleaned up they’ll be lovely. No idea who made them though! It’s a titanium scorpion end can.

as for the 2 into 1... iv only heard of yamamoto making those systems for storms but could be wrong.
