SP2

Post by bigr250 »

A fellow Scouser friend of mine Mark Heckles was quite famous a few years ago when he campaigned a Honda SP2 in WSB. The reason for my telling this is that he's just built himself a replica of his 2002 bike to race in a suitable class in the US.

The following year he rode an ex Colin Edwards WSB SP2 in BSB, very different to the private (albeit Honda supported) bike from the year before.

Despite racing in the US National Superstock Championship on an R1 he built this to race for fun;

I just thought the pic's might be of interest to some VTR peeps.

During his year in WSB he was often described as Colin Edwards Castrol Honda team mate & this couldn't have been further from the truth. Colin was riding a full factory no cost spared 'full fat' Superbike, where Marks SP2 was a road bike that was shipped to Italy with lights & mudguards and converted to race spec with a bolt on kit from Honda, who were thinking of marketing the SP2 as a privateer 'over the counter' Superbike for 2003.
