Side stand buddy

Post by Pem Brooke »

Thought I'd share a bit of kit that I use with my bikes...
On the sidestand, I often find the bike leans too far over. Or, if I'm parked on a dirt car park, nervous about the stand sinking...If I lived down south, I could also include hot tarmac causing a tip over, but on the North East coast, that's not something we have a problem with..

So I bought a hockey puck, cut a ledge into it, and hey presto! Got myself an extra half inch of lift, and a more solid base for those dodgy surfaces!
Big benefit is that coz it's small and round it slips easily in to my bike jacket pocket, just drop it to your left as you pull up then flick it under the stand...simples!

Now there are loads of these on E Bay for around 2 quid....so no excuses on cost. If you can't be bothered to DIY, PM me and I'll chop one up for you and post it to you, just PM me. I reckon £8 should cover it. But it really is a 2 minute job.
Twist it 'til it breaks, then back off half a turn.... :eh:

Your next upgrade to the PUCK Stand puck is to put a bit of string/cable/elastic/or one of them coily plastic things for disc lock reminders on it.

Park up, stand down, PUCK Stand puck out of pocket/tank bag/man bag...Hold string, drop PUCK Stand puck, manouver into place, hook string/cable/elastic/or one of them coily plastic things for disc lock reminders over the brake lever ( You did remember to have a long enough bit if string/cable/elastic/or one of them coily plastic things for disc lock reminders & put a loop in the end didn't you...?)

Then when you get back on the bike you can hoik it up & put it back in your pocket... You wont forget it as its hooked over the brake lever...

Nowt worse than riding off and 10 mins later going "oh sh1t"..." That said, I have a side-stand puck from a bike mag years ago, never used it yet.
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

You may want to shorten you sidestand with that. You wouldn't want a big gust of wind to hit the bike side on. I still have my freebie puck handed out at Brands Hatch. Lives under the bunngee that holds my tools in place.
