What to mess with first?
What to mess with first?
Hi All
So I got my first Storm home yesterday, here is a picture;
Bad points - yes it is about three different shades of blue and the exhausts are standard.
Good points are that it has manual CCT's fitted and a newish Bridgestone back tyre.
The paint on the front mudguard is crazed badly so i was thinking of wrapping in black to match the hugger, has anyone tried wrapping one before?

Good that it has MCCTs - but before the pretty stuff:
Check that the R/R is a later finned version, or better still a MOSFET.
Service the swingarm shock linkages.
Check under the rubber hood on the starter motor for corrosion.
Give it a service / change fluids.
PS.
Move the bin when taking pics of your new StormBeastie or try experimenting with vinyling it ;-)

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Good call on all points
I am going service it at the weekend so will check the rec and starter at the same time. I will save the swingarm service for another day (i.e once i have read the sticky on how to do it).
Off to wrap the bin lid, has some similar curves to the mudguard

Re: What to mess with first?
+1 on Wickys' recommendations
Also, I tried wrapping the front mudguard and it was very tricky, even with expensive vinyl and an extra pair of hands, it was a failure of epic vinyl wrapping proportions!
But, you may have more patience than myself...

Re: What to mess with first?
Ideally i want to paint the whole bike (i hear Teal is popular ) however my painting skills are poor, so I thought i might try wrapping until i have funds to get the whole bike painted by someone else.

Re: What to mess with first?
what wicky said, give the bike a good once over. I've dabbled with vinyl wrap in the past, with patience it can be done well. but if your wanting black, it would be easier to paint it. where are you based?
HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!

Don't fit TAT !
PS.
Put all the blue bodywork in the bin then paint your new StormBeastie RED or try experimenting with vinyling it in RED;-)

Re: What to mess with first?
Most important first job is paint it red.Anyway welcome to the forum.
SO WHEN DOES THIS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER KICK IN
Re: What to mess with first?
Not so fussed about all black, just thought it would look a little better if the mudguard matched the black hugger and wrap is relatively cheap.agentpineapple wrote:what wicky said, give the bike a good once over. Once I have done all the service stuff (and the linkages), after the mudguard next thing to be 'fixed' will be the exhausts.

Don't you listen to the heathen ba@stards matey, and certainly don't consider slowing her down by painting it red, or worse still adding black into the mix!

I don't mind the blue, it's just the different shades that offend me!Kev L wrote:Don't you listen to the heathen ba@stards matey, and certainly don't consider slowing her down by painting it red, or worse still adding black into the mix!

Going to have to wait for payday for the exhausts, been alerted to a set of high level ones on eBay(thanks Alan), hope they don't sell and they get relisted for another week or so.fabiostar wrote:get the exhaust changed and enjoy the sound ,and tuning wise just paint it yellow for instant sex appeal

Re: What to mess with first?
If your thinking of wrapping then a bit of heat will help to shape or just look up a company that will do it for you, might be cheaper to get it sprayed black in the first place rather than spending money out on wrapping first. If you were to sand and prep it yourself then the paint shop wouldn't charge as much. Or you could cover the postage and I'll spray it for you, have 2k panther black already.
If it aint broke, get your bloody hands off it!
