Bike electrics are dead

Post by slimreaper »

Anyone with any advice?
I was about to go to Cadwell for a track day this morning, got to the petrol station, pressed the kill switch. Lwft the ignition tured on but after about 10seconds the ignition lights went out and there was no power at the starter.
The ignition was still turned on, but the alarm (datatool sys3) self armed as it would if the ignition was off.
Eventually got the bike home (missed the track day    ) found the main fuse at the starter relay was blown.
Cleaned all the contacts and replaced the fuse, but as soon as I put the top back on, the fuse blew again. This happened once more.
Any ideas before I take it in to the dealer which could cost a fortune.
Cheers
Andy

Take the big black lead of the starter motor.
If it still does it jump up and down for joy.
If it doesn't start to cry cause it will probably be the starter motor and thats mega bucks.
Best hope its a fault relay at least that will be cheeper.

P.S
Can you turn the ignition on and bump start it without a fuse blowing?
If you can it's definatley in the starter circuit
