Spark plug popped out
Spark plug popped out
Spirited ride home two or three nights ago nights ago and all of a sudden lots of banging
Thought the worst that the CCTs had gone and that I hadn't done the stopper mod properly. Had a quick look on a dark road and soon worked out that the spark plug had popped out. Not sure that is supposed to happen!
Had a look today and the plug has popped out and won't seat properly - it just spins in the hole. I had hoped that it had just worked its way out somehow. I guess when I find the time the head will have to come off to see what is what or replace the head!!
Any of you knowledgeable chaps got any thoughts before I start fighting with the spanners?

Cooked thread mate. Helicoils aren't much cop imo New head mate
Speak to tony.mon. I know he rebuilds them. He's gonna be by far your best contact. In fact. I KNOW he has. A rear
Gutter!! Someone's clearly cross threaded it in the past. Hunt them down. Shove a sparker up his ass and turn the engine over

Doesn't mean you have to argue with them

And in this case you need a socket set. Scanners won't suffice ;-)

I suspect you are right on the new head front. Can't see any other way really. Never tried Helicoils; just replaced the bits in the past.
Unfortunately it is the front one which seem to be harder to come by. Presumably because of CCT failure...

Re: Spark plug popped out
Similar to a helicoil but it's a solid steel barrel rather than a coil of wire. We use them at work and they're easier to fit than a helicoil as well as more reliable.

Thanks gents
Re: Spark plug popped out
And yes, I have a rear head on Ebay for £40.
I listed it because you can use the valves etc to rebuild a front head cheaply.
But in this case it's probably cheaper to swap a head than rebuild/repair it. And the rear one comes of without taking very much off, the rear downpipe comes off, but the rest of the exhaust can stay roughly in place, just loosened.
And the radiators can stay bolted up, you just need to drain from the lower hose, and refill it again when you've finished.
All you need is a head gasket and some shims....

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
