Hi everyone
Hi all,
I'm Jamie, obviously new to this group, and I live in Spalding, Lincolnsire. I got a couple of reasons for joining. Firstly my Firestorm is my first V twin and it's amazing. It's black, loud and ridiculously fast compared to my last bike which was a Kawazaki 600. It's so light to ride too, even my missus finds it easy to handle. Thought i'd find some like minded Firestorm fans to make friends and chat with.
Secondly, I have a slight problem with it and I was wondering if anyone else has the same. When cruising along at 50/60 mph, usually in 4th gear, it puts out a single click and hesitates momentarily (fraction of a second). Kinda like it's switching off and back on really quickly. I'm hoping it's not too serious. It idles and accelerates perfectly, it's just while cruising the problem arises.
Cheers all,
Jamie

Re: Hi everyone
EH?
You mean there's a VTR in Jamies' photo's? I never noticed.
Oh yes, so there is.
As for the clicking on and off, do your lights go off with this, or have you noticed it in the dark, like a temporary loss of electrics?
If so, check all connections to the loom plugs are secure, and the ignition wires are not pulled (Reason I suggest that is, I notice the bike's had a re-spray, so with maybe the fairing been off, a wire could be pulled).
Does it do it in a straight line? Or does it favour clicking when you turn the bars left or right? Again, could be a pulled wire.
Check battery connections are secure on the battery terminals. Check no loose fuses. Check earth cable from battery is secure and check starter motor cable.
Check ignition coils are tight on the frame, and that the HT leads going into the spark plug caps are tight.
Basically, if the bike is "clicking" on a regular basis, and you think it IS electrical, then don't keep riding it until you suss out what it is that's causing it. Just to play it safe, and not cause damage.
It may be the throttle position sensor as suggested, so when yer next out and about, have a listen to try and determine where the click comes from. Also ride with yer lights on, and when you hear "the click" have a quick look at the clocks to see if they are still lit up or flash back on.
(Oh, and it could be the cam chain or tensioner temporarily losing tension and snapping back again?, but I'll leave that explanation for someone else, as I'm still running the originals on my Storm.)
Aside from that, if it's yer first power bike (1000 V twin) take 'er easy on it. Yes, they are very easy to ride, but by gawd they can catch you out! As can be read with everyone dropping them unexpectedly for numerous reasons!

Re: Hi everyone
After re-reading this, if you are doing approx. 60mph in 4th (?), there are another 2 gears to go y'know ( ), so try not to "cruise" in 4th at that speed.Harry Growler wrote:When cruising along at 50/60 mph, usually in 4th gear, it puts out a single click and hesitates momentarily (fraction of a second).
At 60mph in top gear (6th), you should be sitting around the 3,200rpm area (depending what tyres you have on, and whatever gearing the sprockets are). (For example, I run Bridgestone Battlax T30s front and rear, and the chain sprockets are standard gearing with 16 teeth at the front, and rear at 41 teeth) With that, at 60mph in top gear, my rev counter shows approx. 3,200rpm.
With doing your speed of 50-60mph in 4th, the bike will be wanting to pull and will be calling out for another gear, the revs will be too high, and the cam chain will be a bit "jumpy".
The "clicking" you hear may be the slack in the cam chain, which then tightens and then slackens with the tensioner? (perhaps) - Again, one for the cam chain mechanical experts.
Next time yer out, when at 50-60mph, try to be in 5th or 6th and see what happens.....

Welcome Aboard
If it's a stumble at those revs it could just be a combination of pipes, filter and/or poor set up.
