Sound like rectifier/regulator to me fella :( Search it as it's common!

Yep common fault. Have you got the original unfinned R/R

Image

Run through the diagnoses checks. As it's appears to be undercharging it may only be the R/R at fault.

Some more info in the following thread.

And see the Read Me for New Members below.

A healthy battery should show around 13V a fooked battery will be around 12.3-5V, if you have a good charger sometimes the battery can be saved, but generally its a good idea to get a new battery.

V twins always need a good bang from the battery when they start up.

Get a voltmeter and place the red needle on the battery first then the negative last, turn the bike on, the battery should be showing around 12.8-9 -13V+ when ticking over. The battery should also not drop below 10V when you first turn the bike over, secondly rev the bike to a constant 2000 RPM 14.5V shows that the charging system is working, if its all over the place OR over 14.8V replace the regulator and don't ride the bike until you do as its gonna cost you a new battery and could also cost you other electrical parts.

If its undercharging this could be pointing to the stator, just do a test with a volt meter on that to see what its kicking out, it could be that the ' cells ' are dying and once that happens they go one at a time at a fairly quick rate, you can buy another OR get the current one re wound, the later is cheaper and to be honest no worse that buying a new one.
