my engine don't wan to run over 3500 rpm :(

Post by obimic »

hi !

First, please my poor english, I'm French. I try to write the better I can, (and help with google translate , but i think isn't realy good idea :p)

Sooooooo

I've a big bad problem with my storm:

After a header gaskets fail, I give the job to a friend who have his own mecanic workshop.

After change gaskets , when he try to test my storm after job, he had a new problem:

engine don't want to run after 3500 rpm.

he think first it's camchaft who haven't good timings. he check two time, with a second mecanic to be sure the timing ajustement was good.

Timings are ok...

So he controls wires loom & connections, coils, change the sparks a second time. all is good... but the engine don't realy want run over 3500 rpm.

He tell me "i think that will be the ECU, I've friend who have a storm, I ask him to try with his ECU".. but my storm is a 2002, with HISS ... and it refuse to start.... hahaha he don't change ignition lock for use the other key..

Hum...

I want to buy a full set keys/locks/ECU/amplifier but it cost near £300 .. just for try... if that isn't the ecu... it's a cash who are droped by the windows.

Any people have an idea about my problem who i speak about it at my friend?

Lots of thank to try to understand me :biggrin :biggrin :biggrin :biggrin :biggrin

Sounds like its running on one cylinder and I still think there could be a timing issue especially if the head has been removed and care was not taken to set the timing on the bad cylinder before removing the head

Don't waste money on new ecu or electrics and no the later HISS ecu will not work and it's not good trying it on your bike.

Can you conform that the cylinder head gaskets where changed or the the exhaust header pipe gaskets. If cylinder head then check the timing according to the the following on this site as some workshop manuals have it wrong.

Also make sure that the vacuum is in the correct place

How was the bike before this work was done?

And put a volt meter on the output from the voltage regulator rectifier at the battery.
Too high voltage will give you that fault.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Hi,

My mechanic has dropped the VTR yesterday at home because he can't find the problem after 2 month to search...

I try to change the CDI, but no better effect.
I clean the carbs. no dirts inside.
mainjets are 188/190, factorypro carb tune 1.0, K&N air filter are cleaned.
I control vaccum pipes (good), petrol tap diaphragm (good), vaccum head on carbs (good too).

the TPS is correct (500ohm), checked at the loom connector of the ECU

I was swap in past my engine with a 2000 engine so I don't have any PAIR system on my storm. (the derivation on carb are closed, and airbox is a 2000' too.

I've make a video.
the first one is already on youtube

the second one (with open airbox for look carbs)

Put new vac pipes on .
And check the pair pipe on the carbs .
This sounds like a fuel problem

pending receipt my order (vac pipe), I did some tests.

I have at home a second carburetors ramp so I exchanged the two elements together.

I looked carefully the vac pipe and I do not find visually default (not cracked, not drilled)

I make a better video where the sound of the engine is better understood

a video with the airbox was open. we can well see the spray of gasoline.
