no more vtrs ?

Post by lumpyv »

talking to my stepson about his cbr600rr yesterday and looking at various bikes on ebay a thought came into my head.

what if Honda hadn't bothered with the vtr/ sp1/2 ? , never ever made them ..

what would we all have ended up with?

I fancied a big twin but not much knowledge about them. nearly bought an sv1000 before I got the storm but now probably glad I didn't. did,nt want to spend ducati money and probably a bit scared of the Italian reliability anyway.

there will be a time when they are all gone or are just complete rarities but probably not in my biking life I guess.

so what do think you would have been riding/loving/modding?? (keep it clean folks) :)

Tl1000s and still want one or even a rsv .
I know a guy who has a rsv that he dropped a few years ago and has just been sat there :-( if I wasn't building a track vtr I'd have it off him

I wonder if the TL would have been produced if not for the Storm. Were they not produced to compete with each other and as a result of the success of the Dukes of the era.

Most likely still the Firestorm as you've only mentioned the SP  as it's cheap to buy and insure. But then if I had an endless supply of funds it would be a Duke. Who knows, maybe I would still be on an IIL4. Could even be a cruiser  Another life I would have gone a different direction, which direction I don't know, that would depend on what paths I'd taken.

I am on a general biking forum and the site owner runs an original TL1000s which is immaculate and gets rebuilt every year just to clean it and sort it. Many mods to make it handle better and go faster but looks standard. in red, it is a gorgeous bike and sounds stunning.

I really liked the look of the last tl1000r or was it called a tlr1000, anywaysin the blue and white, great looking bike, but if it wasn't for the vtr I reckon I would have gone back to the vfr, a bit boring but does everything well.

Well actually they were but the TL's were a complete failure at the track (at least here in the US they never made it past testing), But both were the first steps to challenge the Ducks of WSBK.
