Ticking rear wheel spindle!

Post by Jamoi »

Can anyone come up with an explanation as to why my rear wheel spindle was ticking when I went into the garage yesterday morning? :wtf:

it gets louder as you move up to the plastics, are there some relays on that side of the bike? I should have a look if I has seen this earlier as mine is in pieces as you well know.

Are sure its not under the seat - check the relay kit etc.

Expert: Hello, citizen, I am Bruce Willis of the NYPD. I'm here to help!
Jamie: Can I outrun this thing? Are you saying I do this or I die?!?
Expert: You are not in danger. But the bomb is planted under the display case full of baby kittens towards the
back of the garage. If you don’t help, they’ll all blow up sky high!
Jamie: Back there…I see a ticking swing arm! Oh my god oh my god that’s it!
Expert: Please remain calm. Now step away away from the bike very slowly.
Jamie: Okay…whoaaa. Do you GUARANTEE you know exactly how to do this?
Expert: Just remember—you’re doing this for the kittens. Quickly—cut the green wire!
Jamie: Green green, found it—you’re really sure?
Expert: Yes. Gently cut the wire.
Jamie: Okay. I have two kittens at home, you know…Done.
Expert: Good job. I would like to meet your kittens one day. Now cut the red wire followed by the blue wire.
Jamie: Red…the timer’s still going. Wait, did you say blue or black?
Expert: It’s ok. Cut the blue wire to save the kittens. Then you can cuddle with the kittens.
Jamie: Okay, uh…here goes. Done. Done! That’s it!
Expert: Good job, citizen!

Wicky... what on earth are you on this morning? I want some

I'm certain it was the spindle, when the camera was facing the plastics the microphone on the bottom of the phone was directly on the spindle, hence it gets louder.

When I touched the spindle I could physically feel the ticking.. so strange! I'm not worried but I thought it was pretty weird and worth sharing!

If it was hot and cooling down I could perhaps understand the ticking...

Wicky, did a cricket ball hit you on the temple? Or is the rambling the result of celebrating a result?

It's the sound of micro fractures being created before the spindle itself catastrophically fails and falls into three pieces where you mis-read the service manual and torqued it up to 970Nm... or maybe it is indeed radioactive?
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?
