Clutch Cover Window with LED Lighting

Post by VTRDark »

What is the purpose of this plate? :confused

The only thing I can think of, is that it's there to help distribute the oil around the clutch area. But then why does it sit slightly raised with a rubber O ring and only that slight gap where oil could get trapped underneath it.

Mmm interseting - If oil can get trapped behind the baffle plate, then I'd guess it's a way to let some oil flow out if in wheely mode. or while cranked over to keep clutch wet.

Also could serve the purpose of a noise dampener. Roger might know...

Just be glad it doesn't look like this Trumpet one

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

 That's disgusting. I'm glad I'm not eating my dinner.

The reason I said oil can get behind it is that it sits slightly raised from the inside of the clutch cover and it's not perfectly symmetrical. There's the flat bit (6 o clock in the top pic) where oil can get behind.

I always assumed noise damper, but I have no facts to back that up

It's a weird one isn't it. Basically I want to remove it all together to put my window in, so as long as it's nothing important. I would feel more comfortable if it was a noise damper rather than being there to help circulate oil.

It's looking like it is a noise suppressor. So maybe my clutch will sound like a Duke if I remove it.

I remember chats with the guy who has the orange street fighter with the glass windowed clutch cover

I'm sure Tony and him was discussing it, and think it was said it was to catch and 'throw' oil on the clutch plates or direct it in some way

Over on the Superhawk site they seem to think it's for noise as well. I'm going ahead with the window anyway. But it would be nice to know for sure what it's purpose is. I think I shall PM Roger and ask him.

does it have a part number?

I don't think its for noise mate, it surely wouldn't be channeld if it was? i cant imagine that puny piece dampening any noise

Can any one remeber the name of the guy with the orange street fighter with a duke rear end

No part number on the plate. My initial thought was to help distribute oil. It just seems logical considering the design of it. Anyway I have PM'd Roger to see what he says.

I have just had it confirmed that it is indeed a quietening device. Roger used to always remove them on the race bikes.

It's to stop the light from the little LED shining out from the window.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
