I recently bought an Arrow high-mount full race system (with carbon cans) and just took delivery of it today. The system is brand new, never mounted. While I don't really need it (I am running an Akra full system with Ti cans at the moment), the deal was too good to pass up. Now I have to decide what my next step will be (ie. sell it, run it back to back with the Akra and sell the weaker performer, keep both, ....).
I've had full arrow stainless split sprung systems on my last two bikes
Cbr600 £100 and cbr900rr £45 of ebay and after dyno set ups they gave me upto 6bhp more over stock
I've been looking for one for the storm
But not found one yet
If you do put it on the bike please let us know the dyno outcome before and after
Indeed, the destruction of carbon cans by the massive pressure waves of V-twins is fairly well known. What is odd, however, is that high-end pipe builders like Akrapovic and Arrow choose to offer them. Given their proccupation with their reputations, I would tend to think they are confident that their product holds up otherwise they likely wouldn`t offer them.... Of course, I could be wrong......
The less restrictive they are the easier life they have as the pulses have an easy route out of the end of the can rather than trying to expand it like a balloon.
One tip is to allow the can to stretch slightly by either padding the inside of the can hanger strap with a double thickness rubber or something similar.
This allows the can sleeve to expand a little.
I've noticed that with a tight strap the sleeve starts to break up along the edge of the strap band.
If you repack them, use large headed rivets or put washers under the heads.
According to Carbon Can Co, you can get two thicknesses of sleeve; thicker is less shiny but will cope with the vee twin power pulses.
But just think of them as consumables, like a battery, and it won't annoy you too much if they need replacing.
And Mik's already promised it to the Superhawk forum guys, according to his posts there.
But could you please assemble the system pipework, as I can't see how the parts will go together properly- does it fit the same as the standard one?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
