My best friend !
Ok ! … New boy to this site and the start of an over haul .. .....Best off mentioning that I’m dyslexic , so if it’s spelt wrong …..it looked ok to me !
She recently started back firing and progressed to …yep you got it …coughing , spluttering and is now unrideable
. Along with a bit of fairing damage from a gravely corner in Scotland , its time to do some work !
So ! This is the bike before I start ….bog standard apart from the screen , lifted back end (3mm spacer) and dropped 5mm in the front woke . Oh ! And some one drilled out my baffles …..before I got it !!!

Re: My best friend !
could you post a vid of the noises it makes???
i'm suspecting a couple of bent valves, probably on the front cylinder, and broken tensioner...
was this preceded by unusual rattling noises?
what are you like with spanners btw & whereabouts are you?

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Re: My best friend !
First off thanks for showing an interest ! .. Will try to get a recording …and then try to upload it ….and try to get it all to work !!! … The common denominator is “try†…. Computers aren’t my first love and when my 7year old isn’t around I have trouble getting anything to work on them , so please bare with me this could take a while !!!

Re: My best friend !
Let us know where you are, chamces are someone nearby could have a look/listen.
Could be CCT's and valves, (usually about £125-140 to fix, assuming you do it yourself)
Otherwise you need an exchange head (for the bike!).
But it could be elecs or carbs as well, so don't start stripping it straight away.
There's an easy way to find out if it's a CCT that's gone, stick a small screwdriver down them both and see if you can feel spring tension in one direction.
Is there any "bag of spanners" engine noises?
If there is, almost certainly CCT's welcome aboard!.
But don't start it again until fixed, as if a valve snaps off you completely wreck the engine.
But I now have two spare engines, so not all bad news

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: My best friend !
Cool ! That would be so much appreciated if possible , I still have a few things to check yet before I’m completely lost .
Living in sunny Consett , about 15 mile outside Newcastle … on a stormy day when you look to the horizon and see a shaft of light splitting the clouds ……well it’s shining on Consett !!!! Where men are men and sheep are scared …
But the bike is at my work shop in Felling at present ! Just haven’t had the time recently to look at it , the run up to Christmas is always ridicules !

Re: My best friend !
Ok ! Well …it looks like the pimping will have to wait a bit . Apparently I’m off to Spain at the back end of February for some track days ..
( http://www.focusedevents.com/euro_circu ... ge=almeria ) . So it’s balls out to get the bike fixed … took her down to a mates garage yesterday and picked up the first lot of parts :::-- Chain and sprockets ,sparkplugs , oil and filter . Now the bike is in the hands of some one with the time and knowledge to make a start ..and the clock is ticking !! So to make REAL progress I went back to another mates and got incredibly tipsy !!
But all of this has started me thinking ! ( very feckin dangerous ! )
I might just get a second storm , later on in the year . Have them Bothe set roughly the same , one for the track and one for the road ….
Food for thought !!

When you fit it, remember not to tighten it up as much as the Haynes manual recommends for ball type bearings- you won't get round the first corner......AMCQ46 wrote:WEMOTO do a taper roller kit,

Re: My best friend !
Many thanks ! The bearings have been ordered so I’m just waiting for them to arrive …. Possibly by husky judging by the snow outside !
And yes ! It was indeed Girvan , it was taken just after I had followed a friend round a bend some half mile back . He missed the gravel patch I had an encounter with an Armco barrier! A cup of coffee and half a role of red gaffer tape later and we were back up and running “ shaken not stirred “
