My shock spacer came today - disamapointed....

Post by cliveyandrews »

I guess I expected a massive great piece of milling - but when you think about the size and placing of it - it's not gonna be that big.....

Lets hope it shows an improvement...

Don't be disamapointed, it'll work
What size spacer have you gone for in the end?

Hehe - apparently 11mm...

"TRANSFORM CORNERING OF YOUR VTR1000 BY FITTING THIS SPACER TO REAR SHOCK, NO MORE RUNNING WIDE IN CORNERS, BIKE STAYS ON LINE WHEN THIS FITTED.

3mm thick

EASY 10 MINS TO FIT, JUST LOOSEN TOP SHOCK BOLT SLIP SPACER IN AND RETIGHTEN.

CHANGES STEERING GEOMETRY BY RAISING BACK END BY APPROX 11mm."

if it was one of the little farty 3mm thick spacers they do make a difference believe it or not.
know what you mean tho - i got one & thought wtf! looks too thin to make a difference :confused
took mine out after a while - still got it somewhere on the garage floor buried under piles of other unwanted tat.
a square unistrut washer with the hole slotted out is better imo

It's an age old topic. Roger Ditchfield recomended 3 -6 mm. After 6 mm he said you can suffer with instability problems so not to go any further.
I cut one from a 4 mm bit of plate I had lying around and I was very pleased with the result.
Just loosen the top nut on your shocker, lean the bike over onto the side stand, slip in the spacer, tighten the nut back up and away you go  As quick as that

I went straight to 6mm and waited to fall off.
Nothing, it's fine.

Handles better, tips in nicely but can get slightly squirrely over cats-eyes accelerating hard with squared-off tyres.

Nothing to throw you off or make you shut the throttle, though.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
