How do you paint an engine? Might sound a bit daft, but I remember way back someone having to pop it in the oven, or bits of the casing etc??

It's something I would like to do as mine's a bit tat, but not sure where to start, prepping, priming, paint to use etc etc to do a decent job.

I'm gonna do the street fighter casings & rockers with PJ1 fast gloss black, it's a spray epoxy paint that is pretty tough and heat resistant on casings etc
Duffy my good chap, I thought I had explained to you previously, those words NEVER appear in the same sentence!!!!

Gave the 19L tank a rubdown with 600 wet and dry. Washed it clean. When it was dry I wiped it over with pre paint wipe, then base coated it yellow. The bloody paint decided it didnt like two points on the tank, and basically seperated, leaving two areas of primer exposed. Wierd, as the rest is spot on. Now I have to wait till next week before rubbing down again, spotting with primer, then more waiting before I can get back on track...Grrrrrr

Damn that's frustrating Leevtr, have you tried petrol resistant primers?

Today...

Cut a blade swingarm brace off and shaped it to fit my storm swingarm, was very easy even with my ham fisted angle grider skills! So thats ready to be welded :) :) :)

Also while on a high after going all out with the grinder I set about shaping up my knackered top yoke so I can reuse it as a (LYRB) lower yoke reinforcement brace, so that's now ready for a lick of satin black :D

Just a thought Lee, did you possibly lean on the tank by supporting yourself with your hand on the tank while wiping it? That might explain the two random reaction spots, maybe you didn't realise you were touching it? Just a thought??

Nice work Jammie
You still need to shape the brace at the front where the shock goes .

Oh carp! Does it foul the shock much? I have some 2mm steel plate, would that be ok to cover the hole left after grinding the front bit?

Well.. I didnt do much to it... but.. Mike got my bike running better than ever before... few things done recently
Synchronized the carbs (big, big difference)
New brake pads
Replace clutch fluids and added hoses for easier carb syncing. .. bike runs like a dream... thanks Mike!!!

Lee make sure the first couple of coats are a light dusting. Don't apply too much. What brand spray are you using
