+1 Thank youbigtwinthing wrote:I asked my Oil Analysis guy yesterday regarding Diesel Oil in the storm.
He said. As the Storm is an older design engine (from 1997 etc) it would probably be ok on say good van oil. Turbo Diesel oil is what he uses in his CB600 and has for years. He actually gets his from Halfords at about £11 for 5 lts. In newer engines ha would always use semi and never fully synthetic.
Its worth noting he does an oil analysis check on his bike just before an oil change and changes on the results. In the summer it will happily easily do 12000 miles, in winter not so long, something to do with shorter trips and warm oil etc.

Nice one Paul that is very handy information to know. It does make one wonder how much is just a difference of packaging and how far off the contained products (oil) are from each other.

He told me today that his brother uses Halfords turbo diesel oil in his bike and quads on his farm.cybercarl wrote:Nice one Paul that is very handy information to know. His quad has done 48000 miles on the same oil and filter for 4 years. he has not even changed the filter but gets the oil checked on analysis.
Hi car a merc 200 so old has done 243000 miles and he changes that oil every year only before his MOT is due. New Heater plugs and a air filter and thats it.
If i ride 3000 miles i have to do the oil and filter or i crap myself
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

Re: Oil Consumption
There's no VTR tight arses around while we have Lloydie.
I personally would not bother to use diesel oil but It's still handy info to know for when members ask about it. If I could avoid buying anything from Halfrauds I would. Genuine bike oil and filter would still most likely be cheaper on eBay. I guess a saving would come if one did not have to change the oil as often. I change my oil as and when I please, I don't really have a schedule as such. The bike tells me when it wants an oil change, most noticeable with gear changes.

Oi tho I just picked up 5l of lube
Re: Oil Consumption
lloydie: so you bought oil filter suitable for hex wrench plus chain wrench :-)
to be not out of topic, currently I use Silkolene Pro 4, bike has no oil consumption. Personally I see no reason why not to use synthetic oil, as mentioned above.
e: but it makes sense if your current filter doesn´t have nut ..., my fault :-)
