Their not the exact ones I have. Mine are about twice as big as that and can easily grip around an oil filter or even a clutch basket just about. I think they are called water pump pliers.

I no the ones you mean i have two 6 inch pairs about ton a piece i use for pvcu unions they all so replace the 16 oz hammer :lol:

:clap: :clap: I've done that, turned them on the side edge and hammered gently.

Actually last time I used them in a hammering situation was to put the lower fork bearing on. I turned them on their side, not the edge this time but the flat faced part. Opened jaw up and around the old bearing, not clamping, jaws resting on both sides of the old bearing, which was sitting on top of the new one. I have then used a hammer against the largest side/area (grip side) of the grips to tap the bearing down while moving the grips around the circumstance every now and again so it was tapping the bearing down as evenly and consistently as I could under the circumstances. :biggrin

It was a case of where needs be, and after that I said to myself I really must buy a proper tool for this job or get a bit of pipe :lol: The right tool for the job makes life so much easier but ingenuity helps too.
