Stripped a set of forks yesterday, what a faf.

Nothing complicated, just bottom of the range 43mm conventionals.

Could I separate the station from the lowers, er no.

After giving up on the slide hammer method, I bolted an old cr250 lower yoke to the station & twatted it till my arms were aching. Still no go.

Good job the stations were knackered / bent beforehand because they were dented all over after a lump hammer wielding fit of rage.

I had to use a bottle jack in the end, base on the outer top & jack pad on the CR yoke.

After a LOT of pumping it finally managed to pull/drag the station bearing through the slider bearing. I thought at one stage it was going to fire the station harpoon style through the roof.

I've done many forks over the years & have never seen this before. Only thing I can think of is that the previous owner fitted the wrong bearings before.

After the separation, I had to collapse & cut the slider bearings with a cold chisel to get them out.

3 hours. Propper faf.

Good work..I wish I had a decent man cave, with some room, heat and a bike ramp would be nice too , on cold days like this I cant get anything done in my single garage rammed with bike, cycles, fridge/fzr and all that other domestic junk..
Put it somewhere comfy....

I actually got in home today after buying it last November, goodbye GSXR, hello storm.

My friend owns & runs his own specialist motorcycle transport company and short term storage, which proved handy on both fronts.

Never had a yellow bike before, its growing on me..took it for a quick spin, feels really nice to ride and so much more comfy..

Someone mentioned a few days back storm prices had risen but to put it into perspective, someone has paid more for this imported , battered Honda NS400 missing a fairing and many major components than a 2 owner, 6,000ish mile 2002 'storm...

Been busy with the flat track project, removed the top frame spars & majority of the rear subframe.

Engine placed in the frame, yokes fitted with shortened Vara forks. (36" same as the Cbr600fy) with Renthals.

Vtr swingarm & linkage fitted with 10" eye to eye wooden shock

We have a rolling chassis

Here's todays setup, please remember this is only a balancing act setup, just to see what's what, what's going where & what's next for the chop.

The remains of the rear subframe will eventually be removed, it's just there to aid setup.

Even the front wheel is on backwards

spent half a hour cleaning my friends headers, used 3 different grades of sanding pad and wd40, all done by hand whilst the headers are on the bike, dammed if i'm going to risk removing them. i'll do a little more tomorrow evening after work. ignore the wonky lower fairing, mangled allen head bolt means I can't remove it just yet, so I bent it out of the way :(
