Best way to get manual CCT's is to just make them out of the auto's... A drill press and a thread tap, and you just put a M8 coach bolt straight through, with a lock nut on it to lock it in place... It's the cheapest, most reliable way...

Bummer about the busted engine...

When dismantling it keep obviously the front CCT (you'll find the spring has broken) and the bent valves - and check for damage to the top of the piston and valve guides etc. Bag 'em up and drop on the desk of Honda.

Welcome aboard Matt. I'm also sorry to hear about the front CCT failure after such short mileage and short ownership, how gutting.

Try not to dwell on it too much, press ahead and get it fixed. Once you've got the bike back on the road it won't feel quite so bad.

The problem with replacement standard CCT's is, you don't know how long they have been sitting with the spring under full tension (something that never happens when a CCT is fitted to the bike), as they are sent out with the plunger fully retracted. IMO with the spring under full tension for goodness knows how long, this must shorten the life of a CCT.

yes was the front cylinder that went . Wasn't going perticualy fast roughly 40 mph when the noise started and switched off immediately .
A bit gutted considering its taken a while to find a good 1 but just goes to show even bikes that have been maintained to a high level have issues .
Must admit I did smile the whole 2 hours while out on it

When you decide what you're doing, I have 2 spare manual unused cc tensioners and a complete spare engine with carbs which I am thinking of selling on

Once they have been setup correctly they usually only need checking each time the valve clearances are checked.

Well a little update .
I removed the bent valves, guides and cct took them all to a honda main dealer and presented them with the invoice 800 miles ago .
I was told it's a common problem and there was nothing that they could do .After I spat my dummy our and a few calls later I was presented with a 300 gift voucher .
Then proceed to cost up the new parts which total nearly 500 quids worth .but however I'm reluctant to use the auto tensioners from honda .
1 of the guys on here said he had a spare set of manual tensioners for sale .
How can I send a pm to the chap to take it further .
The storm is looking a bit sorry for itself at the moment but hope it won't be for long :-)

Don't know if you're aware but JE high compression pistons are only about £200 a pair, with pins and circlips, but you will still need two sets of rings.

While you're there....

Now there's a thought .
May aswel go the whole hog as it's in bits .
Only intend doing it the once haha
