not sure having george Michael singing is much of an advert for the uk, all i could think of was him hanging about in toilets and driving about wacked up on drugs. would much rather they got david bowie there in person . i am quite enjoying it though..
Shame he wasn't driving one of the cabs with the Spices on top. Can you imagine the carnage!! Although he might have been ok as there isn't a branch of Snappy Snaps there.

Say cheese

I got to say this is the first part of the Olympics I have really watched and have enjoyed it so far. But then the UK are good at putting on a music festival/concert.

Was that all the fireworks :eh: that was an anti climax. I was expecting millennium style fireworks. :(

i'm proud to say i have no idea what you're all talking about, as i haven't watched a single second of the farcical corporate cash-cow commonly known as "olympics".
tho judging by the many comments on FB over the last few weeks, the opening was an embarassment, the english won a couple of races, and last night was even worse than the opening.
glad i avoided it.

I planned to avoid it..........was gioing to go for a run out on my bike when the opening was on as the roads would be empty......... but sat with family and watched it and have been sucked into the spirit of it for the whole 2 weeks...........not like me at all!!!!!!!

huge waste of money, far to much corporate butt licking, tickets were extortion and then to have seats empty 8O ............ but the athletes, their personal journeys and the dedication and standard of performance............fecking superstars the lot of them  ...........especially when you contrast it to all the sh1t role models on TV these days..(TOWIE, Kardashians, Big Brother, X Feckter, Britians got no talent etc)......

I ended up being thankfull that these people filled my TV for 2 weeks [even if I only watched bits of it] because it religated all the other tat to its rightfull place, and our kids can now see that it might be better to work hard for what you want, not just to dream of having false hair / tits / nails / tan / etc [and thats just the men!] and hope to be famous on a reality TV show.

:Beer Popcorn: :Argue:

oh and then there was Gaby Logan :erection: :D

Initially when GB won the bid I was concerned that there would be an appalling spectacle throughout the whole period of the games. But do you know what? There wasn't a single thing that gave me cause to be anything but proud of all of the athletes and organisers, including the volunteers. To see the commitment of the participants and the joy of those who succeeded along with the desperate sorrow of those who didn't succeed made me realise how much it meant to the people involved. The spectators all got involved and showed support to all participants no matter where they may have been from. I thought the whole process highlighted the better side of human nature.
The politics and dealings that have gone on, the cases of drug abuse and those who served exclusions and were then allowed back in to various levels of success, will all be argued over seperately as the event post mortem takes place over the coming months. But, for once, we did something right and everyone that was involved had a good time.
Realistically rob the athletes story is not that different to yours. They strive to achieve by perfecting their bodies whilst you do so with metal tube and welding gear. The result is that you produce something entertaining and exciting, which not everyone will appreciate or like.
It's a shame you didn't watch the closing ceremony rob, the spice girls all had pink street fightered sports bikes!!!!

Naaaagggh not really.

"I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want" you lot to just accept that you were an adoration of a moment in time that needs to be forgotten. Now go away and die quietly.

Screw the sport, it just a game. And I missed the Fencing the only one I would have watched. I enjoyed the concert at the end though cause that's all it was.

I totally agree with it all being a waste of money. I would have much rather seen the funds being put back into the NHS, Education or something constructive. Not commercial.

And now I got to put up with the Para Olympics, so traffic is still gonna be a total nightmare in London, there will still be more noise pollution (helicopters and sirens) and still more fuzz out on the roads, everything will be more expensive and the city will still be packed full of muppets.

Yeh it was good to see a bit of history falling out the cannon. I may change my opinions if I see some of the money going into funding of school sport days and getting back their playing fields. Youth clubs being re-opened and parks getting back their sports facilities. Bringing back the community spirit. It's just all too commercialised IMO and I can't see the money actually helping out the general public on a day to day basis. It's all hype.

I'm not a big sports fan, but I enjoyed the few bits I watched. Just a shame some of the best races started when it was time to start eating

still, gave up watching the closing when ms lennox appeared; all looked a bit mad to me.

also thought it was interesting having all those kids skipping past ray davies wearing comedy wigs a bit like ray's barnet; genuis :D :D :D

I thought they were taking the piss out of Scots at that bit of the performance.......having a bunch of blokes with ginger hair staggering and falling over.........very disrespectful :(

but my kids told me it was called tumbeling and it was not a slur on my homeland.........they then backed this up by pointing out the the tumblers were not swearing and picking fights, so I had to conceed my arguement at this point, and resort to swearing at them and threatening to hit them
