Blipping when changing down gears........
Blipping when changing down gears........
Got an annoying problem hope you knowledgable lot can shed a little light.
Last summer I managed to conquer the technique of how to change up gear without the clutch and this year I finally managed to master how to blip the throttle when I change down to bring the revs up (Yes - it maybe a small thing for most but for me, I'm so pleased) anyway, 95% of the time there is no problem but on the odd 5% of blips, the bike sounds like it wants to cut out, as if its swallowed a deep breath and wants to cut out but doesn't. Its similar to the feeling/noise you get if the rectifier is playing up, which I changed but not upgraded cos I dint see the upgrade post before I changed but will try to next time.
Obviously I can hear it more when I'm riding at lower speeds i.e 40-50mph changing down for a corner or roundabout.
So this is what I do when I change gear:
middle finger brake
clutch in
change gear
(cover brake with said finger) throttle twist with remaining fingers
clutch out (as smooth as I can)
so, I'm questioning my ability and trying to alter the speed/way I do the above to see if it makes a difference. I'm not sure if I don't give the throttle enough of a punch when blipping as I have slightly smaller hands than the average man
or
there is something wrong with the bike. I have replaced my Scorpion cans (that were Dyno's - stage 1) with high level MIGs, could the Dyno setting be wrong for the new cans and would it make a difference?
Have checked the air filter to see if any hoses were dislodged when I took the air filter off to change the throttle cable - seems ok.

Mine does this from time to time, if you look through my posts in workshop someone provided a link to a page showig how to modify the breathing jobbie for the carbs ???
I ain't no mechanic as you can tell
btw having swapped to Micron cans in the past few weeks the stutter / stall issue seems to have gone, ti almost like the bike can breathe properly now there is nothing chocking it at the back end

Sounds like a combination of 2 things. First, the setup being just a touch off perfect. Secondly, the timing of your blip.
I've noticed already with my storm (only had her a few weeks), I can get the occasional miss when slightly blipping the throttle.
If it's just very occasional then don't worry too much. If it's regular, or is just getting on your nerves then I'd take her to a good dyno centre for a tune up and carb balance (Or do that yourself if you're capable).

It's not how fast you ride, it's how you ride fast.
