head race bearings

Post by cookiemonster »

Apparently the head race bearings on the VTR should be set to a specific torque (rather than the nip 'em up and take a quarter of a turn off...)

Does anyone know the torque setting ?

If it comes to it i'll go buy a haynes manual, but it seems a it much for one number...

:)

Head bearing ajuster nut - 25Nm ( 18lf ft )

Locking nut on top yoke - 103 Nm ( 76lb ft )

You need an special tool with a castellad head to tighten them to the specified torque. Otherwise the best thing to do is to try and get hold of a small c-wrench and tighten them by hand once you have a feel for what 25Nm feels like.
