How much should it cost to...

Post by Squiffythewombat »

Change the head from my old engine onto the new one? The new one got cracked and its leaking oil, ive had a friend tell me its going to cost around £250 because its quite a mission on the storm???

The bit thats broken is where the rockerbox cover joins the head and its split there?

(we've already tried sealing it with metal paste and it worked until i took her past 6k and then it started leaking?

Any input would be good, ive just become a student so have literally bugger all cash now :-(

You could give it a go yourself, using the haynes manual it is very explanitory in its method.
If you're not to competent in the mechanics department get a friend who can give you a hand.
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it!

i wouldnt mind doing that at all BUT

A) Getting all the timings right scares the crap out of me....
B) All my biker friends have to get the garage to tighten the chain, let alone swap heads :-(

I do have the haynes manual tho so i'll have a look and see how complex it is this afternoon, i have a horrid feeling its pretty intense however!

Looking at it as a whole its scary as hell
(bit like large parts of the Haynes manual!)

Look at it as small chunks and there's nothign rocket science in there
Slowly, methodically and think about what you're doing before you do it and you should be fine

That said I've not done the Storm but I did my old mini to replace a couple of valves :)
I've got an inferiority complex
But its not a very good one!

Thanks Dude! LOL! Well its a long story;, Ive moved out into canterbury city now with my student buddies although i dont start my course until september. The model business has been handed over to my parents.

Meanwhile im trying to eek a living doing freelance graphics and web design in an effort to boost my C.V. although weather it will be enough to pay the rent and stuff i dont know yet (i hope so!)

BEN- Im thinking i might give it a go, are there many things i can totally screw up? I mean, if it all goes tits up can i then take it to a garage without them doing the whole sharp intake of breath?
