Bent Kick stand and smashed indicators

Post by NeilwithYellowVTR »

Left my VTR on the street overnight (big mistake)..saw it lying on its side this morning.
The kickstand seems very bent now. Also the left side indicator is smashed.

Does anyone know the probable cause of the bent stand?
Also what's the best place to get a replacement for a 1998 firestorm, also the side indicator light.

Thanks

In which direction is the stand bent? Bending towards the front of the bike might indicate someone backing into the front tyre.

I have just fitted a new (longer) stand and thus have the stock sidestand surplus to requirements.

A few on the bay, poss bent as the gorilla who knocked it over put too much pressure on it whilst it was down, maybe they sat on the bike & took both feet off ground whilst it was still on the stand...

With any luck the fecker injuerd himself in the process...

Look for other signs it was backed into in that case...keep an eye on fork legs (Id remove them and check for straightness but only because I can easily and conveniently) watch for leaks or other signs the stanchion is bent. first ride, take notice if the stanchions are twisted in the triple clamps "as in going straight but bars (triple clamp and forks) not straight" kind of thing

Too late - that email address is already out on the internet due to bad internet practice / posting a word doc publicly with it in ripe for trawling.

So me & Neil have been conversing via the world of electronic mail...

He's purchased a std Storm side stand from Frank...

Anyhoo he mailed me to say it had arrived but it looked shorter than the one fitted...

Explaind re std stand may still sit as if bike is leaning over if bike had a shock spacer on it ect & I asked him to send me a pic of his stand, so I could ID if it was std or a Blackbird jobbie...

This is the pic I got back...

Looks std to me...albeit slightly bent...

Looks standard to me too. The Blackbird stand has a short stub not a long thingy like the Storm.
